Federico de Majo

The story of Federico de Majo has its beginnings in the family business on the island of Murano. It was here, in the mid-1970s, that he began, as did artistic glass in general.

...yet this job is hardship, sweat and tension. You can never get away, far from it; the group requires the everybodys continuous attention. But it is pure joy to be in furnace at dawn, to see the dance begin to the warm music of the glass pot, to be next to these jugglers, to share the desire to realize our thoughts. Thank you unknown artists, your glass is our happiness. -Federico de Majo.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 3 things to know:14.7", Incandescent fixture Unit is attractive, but there are three important things to know about the large (14.7") incandescent fixture: 1) It takes standard American light-bulb bases, but you won't be able to fit two normal size light bulbs in the diffuser. Refrigerator size bulbs will fit. 2) The threaded shaft that is supplied to attach the base to is about one inch shorter than you will find in many of other lamp models. 3) The diffuser is held to the base by a single horizontal screw. The screw is designed to be accessed along one of the straight edges of the diffuser. The one supplied by the manufacturer is so short that the screw head is about one inch inside of the gap between the ceiling and the diffuser when the diffuser is fully attached to the base. Given that the gap between the diffuser and the ceiling is about one inch, unless you have very skinny fingers, the only way you are going to be able to turn the screw is with a screwdriver. Good luck finding the head of the screw in a once inch gap while standing on a ladder. Given the expense of the unit, you probably want to have two people to change a light bulb. The risk of dropping the expensive diffuser is such that one person should hold it while the other finds that hard-to-get screw head. If you have three or more arms, you can probably do this job by yourself. Yes, the unit is attractive, but like many attractive units, thoughts of practical usage did not seem to be important to the manufacturer..

The dimensions given don't seem right to me. If longest dimension is 11.8 " wide, the height seems about 8". The 4"+ dimension is probably the distance the fixture projects from the wall or ceiling. Please confirm correct dimensions. Thanks.

Hi there, and thanks for your interest in this design. You are correct the 4.3" and 5.1" distances refer to the extension, or distance that the fixture protrudes from the wall. This does not refer to the height of the unit as a whole. We are sorry about the confusion! Please let us know if we can offer any additional clarification beyond this - we are happy to help!
