Michele de Lucchi

Born in Ferrara, Michele de Lucchi studied in Padua and in Florence, Italy, where he graduated in architecture in 1975. After completing his studies architecture, his friendship with Ettore Sottsass and Alessandro Mendini took him to Milan at the end of the Seventies, where he became one of the main activists in the provocative designer group Memphis. His approach to the creation of new styles in design helped to play an important role in the Memphis movement, but by the late 1980's, de Lucchi had moved on to more traditional designs. After working with Artemide to develop some of their lasting bestsellers, de Lucchi created his Produzione Privata label, which creates small series of his designs featuring exquisite craftsmanship.

great design, great quality!!

Excelent product, very nice design and on top of that I got my beautiful lamp on sale, what else can I ask?
Great quality, and this lamp works in dimmer mode but also in remote on /off wall switch, like regular lamp.
Very happy with this good product!

Adorable lamp!

This is our third Castore lamp in our house. We just love the design of this. It is really pretty ball , and for someone who likes modern and none of the dowdy lampshade style table lamp, this is a perfect lamp for you.

Beautiful! Elegant!

This is a really simple, lovely lamp that produces lots of light but takes up little space. I put it by the window-it looks like the moon!
I wish it had a switch on the lamp itself (like the larger sizes do), and I also wish this could dim (like the larger sizes do). But..for half the price, not bad!

needs an in-line dimmer

Pretty cool, but awfully bright. I mean, really, really bright. We took it to a lamp maker to replace the in-line on-off switch with an in-line Lutron dimmer. They don't come in clear plastic to match the cord, but, oh well.

Artemide is a headache to deal with but nice lamp

Nice clean design and soft lighting from this Castore Table lamp, love the dimmer on the base! Just beware dealing with Artemide, I got sent 2 incorrect lamps before I got this one!

Love this!

What can I say? This is exactly what I was looking for. I read the reviews carefully and made sure I got a size that had the dimmer. This is bright when it needs to be and is very cool looking. Not for the person with traditional taste, this is a modern lamp.

Great modern light

We used the light in my sons room. We enjoy the light because it looks clean and modern. It also resembles the moon. No dimmer on the small size purchased but lights up the room beautifully!

Great light

Super bright, attractive, functional, works in any room. I ordered one and then immediately two more as bedside table lights.

Beautiful shape

A bit larger than anticipated, but its a beautiful fixture that works well as on bedside tables as it does side tables.

Nice lamp (deceptively tiny)

I bought the #14 or smallest of the models and didn't realize just how tiny the lamp was until I took it out of the box.

Poor quality control Bad directions

First lamp arrived defective. Instruction in English was difficult to follow.

Customer Questions:

Q: I have some questions about the bulb for the Artemide Castore Table Lamp. Does this lamp require a candalabra-type bulb, or does it take a standard incandescent bulb? Can I use a flourescent bulb in this lamp?

A: The Castore 14 (the smallest) uses a G9 based halogen lamp, the larger sizes use standard incandescent lamps (E26 or medium base). There is a dimmer on the fixture, so if you choose to use a self-ballasted compact fluorescent lamp, it will need to be a dimmable one.
