Michele de Lucchi

Born in Ferrara, Michele de Lucchi studied in Padua and in Florence, Italy, where he graduated in architecture in 1975. After completing his studies architecture, his friendship with Ettore Sottsass and Alessandro Mendini took him to Milan at the end of the Seventies, where he became one of the main activists in the provocative designer group Memphis. His approach to the creation of new styles in design helped to play an important role in the Memphis movement, but by the late 1980's, de Lucchi had moved on to more traditional designs. After working with Artemide to develop some of their lasting bestsellers, de Lucchi created his Produzione Privata label, which creates small series of his designs featuring exquisite craftsmanship.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor quality for big name. I just returned these lights as I was seduced by the clean lines and simplicity of the design. Upon opening the box, picking up and handling this light I was amazed at how flimsy and cheaply made this fixture actually is. It has a painted on metal finish on essentially cheap plastic. I was very surprised at a fixture with the name Artemide behind getting away with such a cheaply crafted product. Now I know why Ikea does so well but at least you know what your getting in craftsmanship quality for the price. This light is another victim of the MacCheepo world we live in. Seems a bit like how are cars are manufactured these days. Where did the quality and craftsmanship go? Oh yeah did I mention the 30% restocking fee that Artemide has?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful light. I'm a big fan of the Tolomeo wall spot lights and clip-on spots, but for a special location in an attic renovation I chose this softer, more feminine sconce. The fabric shade in natural linen creates warm glowing light from a distance, but still makes an excellent light source for reading or other work. And I really appreciate the way the shade angle can be adjusted. Why can't all lighting be made by Artemide?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Clean modern well-made wall light Lovely light, well-made, in stock (thank you Y Lighting!). I would definitely recommend this again to another client. As noted in other reviews, the light only moves up and down, not side to side, which is a bummer. Would be so much more useful if it pivoted in all directions. However if you're aware of that issue and not bothered by it, this is a great bedside wall light.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these reading lights! These are great in any modern (or even traditional) style home. Very simple and elegant in design, they are also very good quality lamps and cast a lovely light. The only thing I wish was that they could also tilt side to side so I could better direct the light. But overall these are very nice, well made lights that should last a lifetime. I love the linen shade!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous! This is the perfect solution for bedside reading lamps. The size is ideal (10"), the shade (paper) creates a warm light, and the adjustability is perfect for general or task light next to the bed. Quaility is what you would expect from the Tolomeo line and the service from Ylighting was outstanding as usual.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice blend I bought 2 of this piece because I thought it was a nice blend of modern design and functionality, with a nod to the old fashioned bedroom wall sconces from my former 1920s new England colonial. They aren't up yet, but the quality so far evident has me confident that they'll be more than satisfactory.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Clean lines and elegant wall sconces Sturdy construction yet appear delicate. Very satisfied with this purchase though wish the sconces pivoted left to right as well as up and down. Would have liked color of shade to be more of a true white vs. the parchment color. Otherwise, they look lovely framing our new headboard in our bedroom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handsome, well-made bedside sconce The modern design is refined enough to fit easily in decor ranging from mid-century modern to contemporary. Difficult to find hardwired, wall-mounted sconces with on/off button like this model. Grey shade casts nice light. Bit expensive, but it also looks and feels expensive in person.
