After completing his studies architecture, his friendship with Ettore Sottsass and Alessandro Mendini took him to Milan at the end of the Seventies, where he became one of the main activists in the provocative designer group Memphis. His approach to the creation of new styles in design helped to play an important role in the Memphis movement, but by the late 1980's, de Lucchi had moved on to more traditional designs. After working with Artemide to develop some of their lasting bestsellers, de Lucchi created his Produzione Privata label, which creates small series of his designs featuring exquisite craftsmanship. I like the balance this lamp provides between light focused on a specific area and ambient glow through the parchment shade. The lamp is elegant and complements my home decor. I agree with others it would be nice to have a built-in dimmer like the mega floor lamp but it's absence is by no means a dealbreaker. By: Andrew, Homeowner (CA) Elegant, beautiful and sleek, but warm. We have several Tolomeo's at home and purchased the classic table lamp for reading. It gives off great light with a soft warm glow. One thing to keep in mind is that the shade does not angle like the classic or micro Tolomeo table lamps. Therefore, one alters the position of the lamp by adjusting the angle of the arm. The shade is always vertical. By: Eva M., Renter (NY, NY) Worthy of its place in the lighting design canon I love this product. It is the second one I bought (one of my staging clients asked to have the first one). I love it's modern design, couple with a parchment shade that provides warm light. It works equally well in a formal living room of a contemporary home as in a traditional office to lend a smart, eclectic note. I use it on a dimmer to control the room's ambience. The perfect added touch to any room: practical, yet eye-catching! By: Parichia I., Designer (New York, NY) Great product The ability to place light just where you like it while also having some ambient light makes this a very versatile lamp. With an amply weighted base, the arm of the Tolomeo can be flexibly adapted to changing needs. I placed this lamp in my workspace to escape the flat dreary light provided by the office and it makes a difference that exceeded my expectations. No more seeing black spots from eyes blasted with ceiling mounted fluorescents for 8 hours. What a great product - the flexibility and range allows me to have everything in one lamp instead of two. By: Jeremy J., Homeowner (Minneapolis, MN USA) From and function This is not the first time that I have purchased this light for my clients. I like them so much that I also have them as my bedside lights. All the Tolomeo line is great! The shipping was really quick. By: Maria, Designer (new york city) Enduring, elegant, adaptive, all-around performer. The Tolomeo range is the perfect balance of form and function. My only reservation is that an in line dimmer like the one on the Tolomeo Mega would be great, especially in the model with the table base. By: Johan T., Designer (Colorado) You get what you pay for Though the all-metal Tolomeo is generally considered the archetype, the parchment shade provides a nice contrast in materials, and lends a warmer tone to both the ambient light and overall visual presence of the lamp. The parchment shade provides slightly more ambient light than the metal shade, making it a good fit for the small offices in this application serving more than "task" duty. The positioning adjustments work generally the same as the standard lamp, though the lamp head in the paper shade version prefers to "hang" more even with the floor. By: JT, Designer (Chicago, IL) Great Light Yes, it's expensive but with Tolomeo lamps you can't go wrong. I have two of them. The quality of materials and workmanship is impeccable and the design is thoughtful. This is a lamp you'll want to hang on to for a long, long time.
