Michele de Lucchi
Born in Ferrara, Michele de Lucchi studied in Padua and in Florence, Italy, where he graduated in architecture in 1975. After completing his studies architecture, his friendship with Ettore Sottsass and Alessandro Mendini took him to Milan at the end of the Seventies, where he became one of the main activists in the provocative designer group Memphis. His approach to the creation of new styles in design helped to play an important role in the Memphis movement, but by the late 1980's, de Lucchi had moved on to more traditional designs. After working with Artemide to develop some of their lasting bestsellers, de Lucchi created his Produzione Privata label, which creates small series of his designs featuring exquisite craftsmanship.
Giancarlo Fassina was born and raised in Milan, Italy. He obtained a degree in Architecture at the Politecnico University in Milan and has worked on several projects involving Industrial Design and has created lighting for Artemide, Luceplan, to name a few. He is a recipient of the Compasso D'oro award for his Tolomeo Series of lamps which he designed together with Michelle de Lucchi.
His work and experiences in different product industrial sectors have allowed him focus his design on projecting lamps & planning and furnishing exhibitions as well as museums. He has collaborated with some of the most important companies in the lighting sector, Luceplan included, for which he projected the lamp Birzi together with Carlo Forcolini.
The Artemide Group since 1959, has offered not only lamps for moments of relaxation at home, but also large sophisticated
installations for illuminating public and private professional activities.
Artemide's technological and productive expertise is achieved through research and development centers, with product planning
and engineering, laboratories for technical conformity and self-certification tests, and production units equipped with state-of-
the-art processes. A production structure that can offer expertise in the processing of traditional materials such as glass,
as well as the capacity of innovation with novel materials, such as titanium. Artemide's vast range of options reflects the
commitment of the whole organization to provide a product guaranteed by the Artemide brand, throughout the world, with an image
that is strong and consistent: that of a leader in the lighting field.
Great design - bad fabrication.
We have had 2 of these lamps, both have broken at the base. When we lifted the lamp, we cradled the base so that should not have strained the pivot. The base metal appears pitted and cheap where it sheared.

I wanted something sleek and minimalist to go with my new Eames Chair and Ottoman in my Loft apartment and this worked just perfectly - thank you!

Beautiful and Functional
I enjoy reading and wanted a lamp that was bright and easy to adjust. The Tolomeo lamp is perfect. I paid a little extra for the black finish, and I love the way it blends in with my furniture. I had no trouble putting it together, and it was ready to use in a couple of minutes. This lamp will definitely be one of the pieces that I will bring with me when I'm ready to downsize to a smaller place.

Love my new reading lamp

The light is perfect for reading.

Timeless classic - quality construction
This version of the Tolomeo lamp is as iconic as the full sized desktop version, but makes the perfect complement for a chairside lamp for both commercial applications (lobby) as well as home (living room, bedside). The single hinge emulates the table top lamp (the next size up has two hinges), and maintains the iconic design of the original with a taller profile without disturbing the designs other proportions.

Serves its purpose
Needed better assembly instructions like tightening joints to your preference. I didn't know and found the 'arms' very loose and unsafe after assembling until my husband figured out that it needed tightening.

A great piece, unobtrusive yet very striking. I wish it was a little bit more sturdy. There is some clearance where the rod inserts into the base making it a little bit wobbly.

Classic yet modern
The floor lamp looks so cool in our family room, next to the chair that I sit in to read. It completes our contemporary home perfectly. The quality seems solid and robust (it's still pretty new so I don't know how it will hold up over the years). I love it!

Love this design. So simple and beautiful. Uses regular light bulb so that's easy. Also easy to put together. I have 4 now!

Stunning piece of lighting architecture
We bought the Tolomeo Reading floor lamp for our difficult dormer'd guest room with its complex roof-line hoping that it would be able to fit in and move around the low slung sloping ceiling. This lovely, visually minimal, streamlined piece is perfect for providing excellent light in this difficult room, admits easy manoeuvrability around the low sloping ceiling with many plane changes. It looks great and feels very good although I don't feel confident leaving the arm slung out far for fear that the tension in the string will not be sufficient to provide sufficient counterbalance to the long lever arm when the head is pulled out far. I do pull it out when I need to - but never leave the head pulled out when I leave the room for fear that it may actually get pulled down and the head hit the floor.

Tolomeo Reading Floor Lamp
I love this light.
Perfect height for bedroom reading use. Light position movement is easy and smooth. The base is heavy and secure. The aluminum colouring is subtle for a clean modern room.
I loved this light so much I bought another!
Thanks to the designer.

Modern & Cool but Intimate

Worth itâlooks great.
Great lamp. Packed with recyclable materials; easy to assemble; lightweight; very adjustable. Casts light beautifully for reading... a 100W bulb may even be too bright for some readers. Only (small) complaint is that some of the component parts were carelessly injection-molded and show a visible "ridge"... a shame for such a well-designed piece.

Looks great with our Eams chairs!
I purchased two of these lamps in black and they are the perfect size to go with our black leather and cherry Eams loung chairs. My husband loves them!

Great design and love the brushed aluminum finish
As a designer, I love to see all types of home furnishings that have intrinsically good design, and the Tolomeo lamp is one of those wonderful pieces. I've been wanting one for a long time and am quite pleased that I made the purchase. It looks great, with it's brushed aluminum finish, and is a nice contrast to wood, leather, glass and stone finishes.
YLighting is a very good site, easy to use, and the shipping is handled very well. If you've been thinking about buying this lamp, now is the time!

Beautiful and practical high-quality fixture!
We loved our first one so much, we had to get another. This is such a versatile piece, and blends with many a decor. A true modern classic.

Modern no nonsense lamp!
I love Artemide because of the design. My home interior is partly modern and partly classic. The Artemide lamps are perfect in both interiors.
The joint of the Tolomeo Reading Floor Lamp I have is broken! Can anybody tell me if it possible to by a new joint?

Beware - Design Flaw
I LOVE the Tolomeo. I own the Mega, 2 of the classic table and 1 clamp on. But the reading lamp has a serious design flaw due to the amount of stress placed on the aluminum at the point of the base. Because of it's ability to flex right at that point it causes the aluminum to shear in two - rendering it useless.

This a beautiful and versatile lamp
The tolomeo lamp is not only a design classic, but also such a versatile and useful source of light. We have one next to our couch as a reading lamp and one next to our bed for the same purpose. The service from Ylighting was fantastic, fast and their prices are as competitive as I could find on the web. Highly satisfied overall.

How far can you lean?
Probably not as far as the Tolomeo Reading lamp. I purchased this lamp over the floor version to take advantage of its aggressive leaning position. It is an excellent light source to have when your project is all laid out on the floor. Please note that the lamp is a bit smaller than the floor lamp and it is best displayed over your favorite lounge chair or bed vs a large desk.
