Design by Michele De Lucchi, Giancarlo Fassina.

In 1989, when the Tolomeo table/task was given the Compasso d'Oro award for Italian industrial design it was credited with having achieved the perfect marriage between design and engineering that works together in total "sync" to materialize an idea and create the perfect object for industrial production.

Since then, the Tolomeo's award-winning design, engineering and performance features have been further refined in a complete series of models for table, floor, wall, track and suspension application.

Features:

  • Fully adjustable, articulated arm body structure in extruded, brilliant, natural anodized aluminum.
  • Joints and tension control knobs in polished die-cast aluminum.
  • Tension cables in stainless steel.
  • 6" diameter (Mini, Classic, Maxi) or 4" diameter (Micro) diffuser in stamped, anodized matte aluminum, tiltable and 360° rotatable on lampholder with incorporated on/off switch (except Micro, which has the switch on the cord. When hardwired, the Micro can only be controlled by a wall switch).
  • Choice of type of wall mounted support in polished die-cast aluminum:
    • Type 'S': suitable for wall surface mounting with luminaire cord and plug in; not for use with "Maxi" body.
    • Type 'J': suitable for mounting to wall electrical junction box with direct hard wiring

Notes: UL Listed.

Dimensions:

  • Micro: 19.3"W X 16.1"H
  • Mini: 28"W x 22.4"H

  • Maxi: 32.7"W X 40.6"H

Michele de Lucchi

Born in Ferrara, Michele de Lucchi studied in Padua and in Florence, Italy, where he graduated in architecture in 1975. After completing his studies architecture, his friendship with Ettore Sottsass and Alessandro Mendini took him to Milan at the end of the Seventies, where he became one of the main activists in the provocative designer group Memphis. His approach to the creation of new styles in design helped to play an important role in the Memphis movement, but by the late 1980's, de Lucchi had moved on to more traditional designs. After working with Artemide to develop some of their lasting bestsellers, de Lucchi created his Produzione Privata label, which creates small series of his designs featuring exquisite craftsmanship.

Simple, classic, timeless and useful design.

Tolomeo lights go with every type of decorating/design. They are built well, work perfectly and are very well priced.

Great product, only it does not come with screws to attach to the wall which is disappointing since they are so visible on the lights.

It took several days for customer service to realize the product does not come with screws which was also frustrating.

Love them, great design, good price

We had the square version of these in our old home and now have the round ones in the new one. Really dissapear into the ceiling, yet also are cool to look at. Got the 2 lights for our bedrooms and 1 light for our closets.

Great product, not exactly what we want

This lamp can not be hung without seeing wires. I wanted to be able to turn the lamp on/off at the lamp, like the other tolomeo lights i own. unfortunately, this one needed to go back and be replaced by the larger style.

Good quality and style for the money.

Buyers should be made aware that screws and wall bolts are not included. This is the third Tolomeo purchase for our home. We really like these lamps and they work with energy-saving florescent bulbs.

Functional & Beautiful, but make sure you get the right size

Tolomeos are a design classic - functional & beautiful. I have purchased 2 to wall mount on the bed headboard.
However, make sure you measure the size to ensure you get the right size. There a number of different siezes and the pictures could be misleading.

iconic design that functions perfectly.

I use this sconce as a bedside reading lamp.
it functions beautifully--the articulated arm lets the user direct the light exactly where he/she wants it, without disturbing other people in bed.

the design is iconic. recognizable but not a cliche.
I love it contrasted with very traditional furniture, or mixed in with modern pieces as well.

don't be afraid of the black finish--it's cool and makes a dramatic statement, rather than the silver finish which is more common.

Great bedside sconces - great value, very functional

We really like these lights at our bedside for reading lamps. The opaque shades are great to keep the light out of your partner's eyes, and keep the light focused on your New Yorker. The aluminum shades remain cool enough to handle, even with 60w bulbs installed. The adjustability of the lamps is really nice for the purpose, letting me put the light where I want it, and me where I wanna be.

Classic design complements our modern decor.

I have 4 Tolomeos... and I want more!

I think I can't get enough of these Tolomeo lamps. They are so versatile, can be moved to any direction, the light that comes from the shade is great and also you have the indirect light that comes from the small opening on the back. Fit and finish is something you will expect after paying $300 and made in Italy. Super modular and several options for surface and mounting applications.
I decided to go for the aluminum finish in order to keep them as original as possible and in some cases, to match my mac setup of glass/aluminum. I have 2 minis on the night stands, a wall mounted version for the computer desk and a big tolomeo mega for the living room. I think I will get the clip-on next or a micro for a small desk. It's an addiction for sure.

Great Design for Desk or Bedside.

My husband and I saw this light in our hotel room in Edinburgh Scotland and loved it. The swing arm is perfect for night-time reading, as the light can be positioned so you don't disturb your husband while reading. We are putting it in our office, to use as our task light and the long arm gives us great flexibility.

Tolomeo lamps are superb - the quality, ease of installation and style are the reason we own them and continue buying them.

Tolomeo lamps - from the floor lamps to the wall lights are high quality and excellent sources of light. We owned a contemporary condo in the heart of Boston and they fit perfectly with the decor. We are remodeling a mid-century home north of Boston and they will fit perfectly in this setting too.

Can't wait to hook it up

I received my Tolomeo Wall light. After revieing everyones reviews I went woth the black ( BEST CHOICE) Unfortuanltly I have not been able to hook it up yet. I'm moving to Sao Paulo in Dec, but I know once I hook it up in my new location it is going to look amazing.

I have bought several things from Y-lighting and I have never been disapointed. All of theire product has been exceptional and the prices are very lower or about the same as other companys.

Sincerly Happy owner of the Tolomeo Wall lamp 8-)

Nice design

I like the functionality and design of these lights. Definitely be sure to check the dimensions before ordering, though. I ordered the micro size, and it's not what you might think of as micro. (Maybe I'm biased by a childhood with Micro Machines.)

My only complaint with the micro size is that I wanted to cover the cord with a channel that would attach to the wall. It's difficult to do that, though, with the on/off switch located on the cord. On the other models, I believe the switch is actually on the lamp, rather than on the cord.

They're fine for my bedsides.

My architect wanted me to put bedside lamps on the wall. I chose this one. He thought there would be a switch on the units themselves, but this is the only model that doesn't have a switch, so electrician had to make a wall switch, which made them more expensive than I planned on. But it should work very well now.

Great light with space saving wall mount

I choose this light because it could extend off the wall and would make reading in bed much easier because of the direction-ability of the lamp. The lamp came with instructions and a bulb. I wish it came with a screws to match the finish of the wall mount. The switch is located on the cord and has slots on the back so it can be attached to the wall. I feel this lamp is a good size for a bed side lamp.

I love these lamps!

These lamps are lovely. They do exactly what we want them to do (bedside lamps that don't have to sit on a nightstand that offer really good lighting for reading. My husband can read without too much light spilling out and I can do the same.
You'll need to provide your own screws.
I ordered two and had a defective unit, the customer service people were so quick to deal with getting another one sent out...it was a great experience all around. I would recommend these lights but also anything from the store (customer service was excellent).

Terrific, reasonably priced, fully articulated bedside reading lamp

It's hard to find a bedside reading lamp which can move both side-to-side and up-and-down for really well-targeted lighting. Also, one which has the on-off switch on the lamp - not on the wall ! What's the point of a bedside reading lamp if you have to get out of bed to turn if off ?? Anyway, this is well-priced (there are a few much more expensive alternatives out there), beautifully designed and completely functional.

Sleek and solid enough, if a bit overpriced

Functionally, this light was exactly what I needed, so I'm psyched to have it. Overall it's a very good product. It looks good, seems well build, is easy to install and use. It's simple and sleek and works exactly as it should.

My only issue with it is the price. It's not quite as solidly built as I would expect for the price. Knock about $75 off and it's a definite 5-star.

I think it would be difficult to be disappointed with this light. We had an electrician hardware 2 on either side of a bed...they look great...but the bonus is the flexibility of the lamps...so easy to move and tilt.

Fits our needs

We were looking for a floor lamp to sit next to the piano, illuminating the keys and music (sort of a task lamp for a piano). Most floor reading lamps are about 50" tall, a good 10"-20" too short. The few that weren't either were too expensive, didn't have a long enough horizontal arm to reach over the pianists shoulder, or didn't match out style. The wall mounted Tolomeo was the perfect solution. It would have 5 stars if the base that mounts to the wall was white to match the rest of the fixture.

Not the heavy duty quality I was expecting.

My clients and I were trying to use this particular fixture in an mid century modern kitchen design. This kitchen application could be described as a little unorthodox and the fixture was just not the heavy duty quality that could stand up to the task.

By:Gail D. , Designer (Seattle Wa)

3 out of 5
great design, lower light quality

I would give this fixture 5 stars if it were not for the fact it is designed to use only incandescent bulbs. I love the light output (1750 lumens) of the 100 watt incandescent bulb which it is designed to use, however you can no longer purchase these bulbs. CFL's do not work in this fixture, the best I could find is an incandescent with light output of 1300 lumens.

Excellent quality

The quality and finish of the actual lamp is pretty high. The black color was even better in person then online. The only downside is the cheaper quality of the separate "silver" portion that holds the lamp to the wall. It's obviously a lower grade shiny plastic and should really be improved to fit the rest of the lamp. Otherwise, a great purchase.

When I ordered the tolomeo micro, the response email said it would take 4 to 6 weeks to be delivered. Happily, I received it much more quickly (in approx. 2 weeks). classic, sure look and value

The light took a long time to come.
The packaging was perfect, the lights were in perfect condition. Exactly what we anticipated.
One advice: make sure you understand the size difference between the micro and the mini as well as the bulb potential before you make your choice. (The micro look very nice on the wall on either size of a queen size bed.)

Nice light

Nice, articulated element for a small room if you get the micro size but it can definitely be in a larger space if you get the bigger size lamp.

Timeless Classic Lamps

I bought two of the Tolomeo lamps for my bedroom. I didn't want to take up space from my bedside tables, so I decided to go with the mini wall mounted model. Even thou the micro model would have done the job, I purchased the mini (a little bigger) because they have the switch integrated in the shade, not in the cord like the micro. I also got the J-bracket which conceals the wires. The result is neat and minimal. These lamps are beautiful, timeless pieces.

Nice, but not for us

For three years I had been debating getting these as bedside reading lights and finally went ahead and ordered them. I like everything about them but they didn't work at all with our black iron headboard. The room began to look too stark. I wish they were perfect, but that isn't the case.

Just the right size for a tight space that just fits a queen-sized bed. It took me a little while to figure out that you can tighten the suspension by turning the knobs. But once I did, the light stayed in place. Very happy with this purchase.

Mostly good

I ordered the black mini lamp with the J-base (wall mount). The black lamp looks pretty good in real life. The movement and balance is light and it stays were you put it.

The armature feels light, strong, and precise with good springs and tensioned cables. There's an engineer somewhere that is proud of this armature.

In contrast, the lamp shade feels cheap, thin, and lacks that precise movement. I'm not sure how well the whole package would withstand kid-abuse.

I was expecting the J-base to be matching matte-black. It only comes in a shiny polished aluminum. It matches the joints in the lamp, not the sexy body of the lamp. It's not a bad look on the wall, but it looks like cost-cutting when you open the boxes. I think a matching base would look better.
