The IN-EI collection revolves around a fabric derived from entirely recycled materials, diffusing light in an extremely interesting way. The fiber is made using PET bottles, processed using innovative technology that reduces both energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Issey Miyake's artistic vision, combines new a 3D mathematical process with the Japanese tradition of light.

Each lampshade is created using 2 or 3D mathematical principles, where the light and shade harmoniously alternate. Issey Miyake's unique folding technology creates both statuesque forms as well as sufficient solidity. The structure of the recycled material, together with an additional surface treatment allows these shades to perfectly keep their shape without the need for an internal frame. The shades can easily be stored flat when not in use.

The Hakofugu Pendant Light features a recycled fabric shade with a white opal polycarbonate diffuser and laser etched Artemide and IN-EI logo. The power cable can be rolled up into the canopy and a driver is included in the light source. Dimmable with a standard incandescent dimmer (sold separately). Ships with 3 feet of cable.

Issey Miyake

Issey Miyake was born in Hiroshima, Japan in 1738. He studied graphic design at the Tama Art University in Tokyo, graduating in 1964. After graduation, Miyake worked in Paris and New York City before returning to Tokyo in 1970 and founding the Miyake Design Studio. In the late 1980s, Miyake began to experiment with new methods of pleating which would allow both flexibility of movement for the wearer as well as ease of care and production.

Issey Miyake had a long time friendship with Dame Lucie Rie, an Austrian-born pottery artist. She bequeathed to him her substantial collection of ceramic and porcelain buttons, which he integrated into his designs. He also developed a friendship with Apple's Steve Jobs and produced the black turtle necks that would become a staple in Job's signature attire.

In 1994 and 1999, Miyake turned over the designs of his collections to his associate, so that he could return to research full-time. In 2004, Issey Miyake established THE MIYAKE ISSEY FOUNDATION and in February 2011, it was approved by the Cabinet Office of the Government of Japan as a Public Interest Incorporated Foundation. As of 2012, Issey Miyake is one of the co-Directors of 21 21 DESIGN SIGHT, Japan's first design museum.

Is the shade alone available for purchase? In case this delicate element is damaged or soiled in the future?

Asked by: lk99
Hi there! Often the glass or shades for our various vendors lighting fixtures are available for purchase as replacements. This is something our parts department would be happy to look into for you. All parts inquiries are accepted via email, so send a quick email to parts@ylighting.com with your previous order number if you have it, name, best contact information, and the part you are hoping to replace. Make sure to reference the original fixture as well, so that the process goes a bit faster. From there, our parts team will create a custom invoice for you and reach out to the manufacturer directly for pricing and availability. You can call in payment at a later time. We look forward to your email, and thanks for contacting us! Stephanie, YLighting Customer Service 866.428.9289
