Design by Michele De Lucchi, Giancarlo Fassina.

In 1989, when the Tolomeo Table Lamp was given the Compasso d'Oro award for Italian industrial design it was credited with having achieved the perfect marriage between design and engineering that works together in total "sync" to materialize an idea and create the perfect object for industrial production.

Since then, the Tolomeo's award-winning design, engineering and performance features have been further refined in a complete series of models for table, floor, wall, track and suspension application.

The Tolomeo Classic Floor Lamp is composed of a polished aluminum fully adjustable, articulated arm and body with die-cast aluminum joints and tension control knobs. Features a 6"D diffuser in stamped, anodized matte aluminum, which is tiltable and 360 degree rotatable on the lampholder, with incorporated on/off switch.

Born in Ferrara, Michele de Lucchi studied in Padua and in Florence, Italy, where he graduated in architecture in 1975. After completing his studies architecture, his friendship with Ettore Sottsass and Alessandro Mendini took him to Milan at the end of the Seventies, where he became one of the main activists in the provocative designer group Memphis. His approach to the creation of new styles in design helped to play an important role in the Memphis movement, but by the late 1980's, de Lucchi had moved on to more traditional designs. After working with Artemide to develop some of their lasting bestsellers, de Lucchi created his Produzione Privata label, which creates small series of his designs featuring exquisite craftsmanship.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice lamp Well built. Purchased it on sale. A couple of plastic parts, which should not be on a lamp of this price IMO, but nonetheless I like it. Will probably purchase a mega the next time there is a sale.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Timeless Design We bought the lamp as a lounge chair reading lamp and love it so far. It is the perfect size, looks and works great. One thing we found, though, is that you need to tighten the hinges when using heavier, LED style light bulbs. Not a big deal (no tools required, just twist some knobs) but it makes adjusting the light a little bit more work if you do it frequently. Just something to keep in mind.

Yes, this fixture does come equipped with a standard on and off switch on the cord, but it is also possible to attach an external dimmer as well. Does it come with a diffusing shade thing? IEĀ  If this : A is the lamp part, the bottom of the A is where the diffusing thing would go, the middle line of the A is where the light bulb is.

Asked by: Androo
Thanks for your interest in this design. No, none of the fixtures in the Tolomeo series have a lower glass diffuser or bulb shield, meaning that the bulb is exposed to the touch. Please let us know if we can offer any additional clarification beyond this - we are happy to help! Parin YLighting Customer Service
