Shady Tree Medium Pendant Light
Founded in 1995, Brunklaus Amsterdam is a cutting-edge Dutch design company internationally recognized for its printed textiles and lighting objects. The collections of designer Nicolette Brunklaus, who was trained as an artist, often juxtapose old with new, solid with transparent and hard with soft, transforming materials as diverse as silk, velvet, wood and steel into designs with a unique poetic and intimate character.
For her designs, Nicolette Brunklaus manipulates her own images, playing with texture, color and shapes, to create lighting objects that are inspired by personal memories, but whose messages resonate universally. The iconic "Shady Tree" pendant lamp, designed in 2002 and nominated for the FX International Interior Design Awards, and the recent "Oak and Silk" lamps are exemplary for the eclectic Brunklaus design approach.
In 2014 Nicolette Brunklaus was invited by one of the world's largest carpet companies, Ege Carpets in Denmark, to design an exclusive carpet collection. The resulting "Canvas Collage" collection was launched in August 2014 and is now one of the spearhead designer collections of Ege.
Designed to be timeless, the products from Brunklaus Amsterdam are handcrafted exclusively in The Netherlands and sold worldwide. Brunklaus Amsterdam has cooperated successfully with leading architects for many hotel-, office- and hospitality projects as well in projects for private housing around the world.
Nicolette Brunklaus is a Dutch designer with a simple goal: to design special objects that enhance the surrounding space of the owner. Internationally recognized for her printed textiles and lighting designs, Brunklaus was originally trained as an artist at the Fine Arts Academy Minerva in the Netherlands. Brunklaus spent the first two years after graduation in the United States where she was invited to do several exhibitions, including ones at the Thomas Barry Fine Arts Gallery, the Kohler Arts Institute and the North Dakota Museum of Contemporary Art.
She soon realized that all art work was closely related to product-design. Once back in Amsterdam, Brunklaus designed and handcrafted a series of wooden cabinets in limited edition and they were enthusiastically received by customers, galleries and the press. As a result, she founded Brunklaus Amsterdam in 1995.
All of Brunklaus' products are designed to be timeless. With a need for high quality, she manipulates her own photographs to create unique textiles and lighting objects. She chooses her images for their color palette and poetic meaning, which are inspired by nature, art and architecture.
Nicolette Brunklaus has lectured at the Parsons School of Design in NY and the Boras University of Smart textiles in Sweden. Her designs have appeared in numerous international interior design magazines, and have been acquired by the Cooper Hewitt Museum NY, the FIT NY, the Mudac Museum in Switzerland, and the Dutch Textile Museum.View other products by Nicolette Brunklaus
