The 14 Series are a family of low voltage pendants designed to be clustered in groups. Each individual pendant is an articulated, seamed, cast glass sphere with a frosted cylindrical void which houses a 10 watt xenon lamp. Unlike most contemporary lighting, the 14 Series pendants are visually quite subtle in and of themselves - they do not dominate a room. Instead, they are designed for clustering - gaining tremendous visual strength when multiplied - the effect being of many tiny candles encased in floating spheres of water. The light interacts with the imperfections and bubbles of the cast glass to make a visually rich halo of light. Cast glass is an organic process - imperfect by nature - so each piece produced is unique.

The cast glass is available in the standard clear. Brushed nickel canopy with braided metal coaxial cable mounts to standard octagonal junction box, with electronic transformer fitting inside junction box. Each pendant ships with 10 feet of wire that can be field shortened. Recommended minimum height is 12" to the bottom of the sphere. Dimmable.

Omer Arbel

Omer Arbel trained in the late 1990’s as an architect. He apprenticed under Enric, Miralles, John and Patricia Parkau and Peter Busby, among others; and was centrally involved in several successful high profile building projects and international design competitions.

In 2003, Arbel founded a multi-disciplinary design studio focused on blurring the boundaries between the fields of architecture, industrial design, manufacturing and materials research. This interdisciplinary approach was born of the necessities of building a sustainable and ambitious office in a context with little opportunity within the cultural periphery, but has since transformed into a structure uniquely positioned to explore the rich area of investigation in the overlap of these fields.

In 2005, Arbel became Bocci's creative director. His conceptual approach, now fueled by an infrastructure for prototyping, fine craft, manufacturing and distribution, has given birth to a collection of conceptually driven lighting, furniture, electrical accessories and objects, which have since gained significant presence and impact within the design community.

Accolades include several Red Dot and iF Awards, a Yellow Pencil Yearbook Entry, the Ron Thom Early Design Achievement Award, a World Architecture Festival Shortlist, with Corrine Hunt, the commission to design the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Medals, and most recently a major installation at the grand atrium of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful but the rubber sleeve is unfortunate... These lights are beautiful, especially when hung slightly above eye level. They're even prettier from above (i.e., when looking down at them), so it makes sense that so many of the online pictures show them hung in stairways where you can catch them from both heights. Two things that I would change about them: (1) I planned to use them over a kitchen island, but they're way too dim for that without using supplementary lighting, which was disappointing (my fault, though: they're accurately advertised as 10w, and that's all you get); even clustered, they don't put out enough for task lighting -- but great for mood lighting. (2) I didn't see any pictures of the lights from below, which may be purposeful: The bottom half of the lights' center opening is lined with a rubber sleeve to diffuse the bulb. Unfortunately, the sleeve protrudes from the bottom, overlapping the glass with a slight lip. To me, it detracts from their beauty, especially if hung high enough overhead to walk directly under them. If used over a counter/island/table or placed strategically to avoid walking under them, you could avoid seeing the rubber lip. Not a deal-breaker, but it would be prettier without the rubber lip to distract from their shape.
