George Nelson

When writing about the course of his remarkable 50-year career, George Nelson described a series of creative "zaps" — moments of out-of-the-blue inspiration "when the solitary individual finds he is connected with a reality he never dreamed of."

Nelson said that for a designer to deal creatively with human needs, "he must first make a radical, conscious break with all values he identifies as anti-human." Designers also must constantly be aware of the consequences of their actions on people and society. In fact, he declared that "total design is nothing more or less than a process of relating everything to everything." So he said that rather than specializing, designers must cultivate a broad base of knowledge and understanding.

Nelson did so as few are able, and, with the help of well-timed zaps, he helped define modern, humane design.

great classic

Modernica shipped the wrong pendant, but Ylighting's customer service did its best to ship the correct pendant as soon as possible. The criss cross pattern is wonderful to see when lit. Highly recommend multiples of the pendant!

the amazing designs of george nelson

While we have many of the nelson lamps in various parts of our home, we wanted a light that really made an impact and also was in line with the balance of the home... the criss cross is an amazing shape and architecturally in line with our home and completed our dinning room.

As a dealer of Mid Century Modern furnishing the Nelson lamps are a staple. Classic, simple, beautiful, and easy to install. The order was placed on Sunday and was delivered on Wednesday. Very nice turnaround and a happy customer.

Love it! Classic lines- just a little bigger than I envisioned.

This is my second Criss Cross lamp. Beautiful lines, quality construction. I purchased an open-box at a discount- it's in perfect condition, couldn't tell the box had been opened. It looks great hanging next to my saucer. So I'm on my way to a lovely collection. It is a little bigger than I envisioned and since I have low ceilings (standard height- 1950's house), created a fuller profile than I imagined. Nonetheless- beautiful.

Beautiful addition

This lamp is going above our eames molded plywood chairs in the bay window of our living room. We really wanted the "propeller" version but it was too big. I liked the cross hatching on this one more than the plain one. It has yet to be installed but my friend has one and says that the George Nelson lamps give the most amazing light. Very excited!
