This is smaller than the other saucer/ball/apple george nelson lamps that I purchased. Each to go bedrooms. The pear is probably my least favourite and the apple best fit for a bedroom. But really they are all classics and really you can't go wrong with any of them.

I have a 1959 ranch house and am in the process of converting a bedroom into a home office. The Nelson Pear lamp was perfect. It's easy to install and an ideal mid-century modern upgrade to the awful ceiling fan the was there before. One thing I didn't read in the reviews was which size Pear Lamp would be right for a bedroom. So, the small is perfect for a 12X12 room. It would also work in a foyer or smaller kitchen. If you're putting it in a dining room, great room, living room or den, you might want to go with the medium. Especially if you have 10-foot ceilings. But in a smaller room with typical mid-century ceiling height, the small is the one to go with.

And, yeah, it has a funky smell out of the box. Open a window for 48 hours and you're good.

This is our second Nelson Bubble lamp purchase and we love this one just as much as the first. We hung it in a small alcove and it provides more than enough light with the 60w bulb. Our house is over 100 years old but we've tried to go more modern with the furnishings. I almost feel silly reviewing this lamp, since it is such a design icon, but it is like functional sculpture. Despite its modern shape, it looks just lovely in the entryway of my traditional house. Because of the soft off white color of the fabric shade, it mellows the florescent-y cast of my "green" light bulbs to a more traditional soft light. Highly recommend!

We have a Nelson lamp and each of the rooms and they all look lovely. Very simple and modern. Makes a big difference in the look and feel of the room. Only small complaint Ive noticed is that Nelson lamps aren't as bright as some other pendant lamps which have the bulb exposed. But I guess that is to be expected.
