The texture of the wrapped material is almost like a cotton-feel, but it's all plastic. I would highly recommend the George Nelson lamps.

We haven't yet found a lightbulb that works well in the lamp - a CFL and clear bulb both gave off "too white" light. We are going to try a low watt frosted, soft white bulb to see if we can get "warmer" light.

Two small quibbles: 1) Installation is straightforward with the supplied pendant cover kit, but the cord is secured by a user-tied knot rather than a screw fixture; 2) Presumably because the lamp came fresh from the assembly line, it continued to emit vaguely solvent-like odors for a week or so after unboxing.

Purchased to replace flush mount fixtures in a basement/den. The ceilings are only 7 feet, but these lamps work great. Hung them with about 3 inches of chord showing.

Very impressed with the quality of the materials. Big difference from the Danish product (if you're comparing, the Le Klint 172) - that we also purchased for another room, but still love the design and look, despite the quality difference.

The lamps are the small Saucer size, and work beautifully in our space. Will be probably ordering more!

I got a large pedant as the centerpiece lighting for my living room in a 730 sqft loft (11 ft ceiling, exposed concrete, electricals) in downtown San Diego.

First and foremost, while the large size is indeed large and demands attention, it is far from gregarious. It just works well in the space, esp hung low (6'2" clearance). It also throws a ton of light. I was worried the 150 watt bulb wouldn't be enough for the area, was surprised to find it a bit too bright, esp, sitting on the couch with it just a few feet overhead. Found a 71 watt bulb and gave it a shot, perfect.

It's such a simple piece but so well constructed, don't see any notable flaws in the weaving. Props to Modernica.

The lamp is a classic. My only complaint is that it uses a cheap plastic nut to hold the ceiling plate up. The nut isn't too obvious because it is white and matches the cord the lamp hangs from. If you have high ceilings it may be less noticeable.

I was very pleased with the whole purchase experience from YLighting and would not hesitate to do business with them again. My order was processed quickly with expediting shipping for free. I received 2-3 email communicating the status of my order. Upon arrival, my George Nelson lamp was packed safely and free from damage. I am very happy with my decision to go with YLighting.

My new Saucer Lamp looks lovely in my dining room! Installation was extremely simple. I did not have to call an electrician because simple directions to install the lamp were included in the packaging. I ended up using a dimmable 100 watt, low energy light bulb in the lamp. I usually have the light on the lowest setting during evenings just to have a lovely aesthetic in the dining room. The armature underneath the exterior fabric creates a lovely, uniform contrast of almost parallel arcs. Just lovely.

In retrospect, I would have opted for a 150 watt bulb because the room doe not get as bright as I would like. Lastly, the only criticism I have of the lamp is the way the chord keeps deformation. When adjusting the height of the lamp, one will have to increase or decrease the swag. After a week, I decided to raise the lamp a couple of inches but curvature and odd deformation of the wire remains (I’m talking about the section between the hook and the fixture that goes into the ceiling). My only suggestion to potential buyers is to be absolute certain of the lamp height before hanging it in place.

So, collectively I would have to say that I am very pleased with the service from YLighting. I am also extremely pleased with the design, aesthetic, build quality, and materials used by the folks making George Nelson lamps. Now, I’ve just got to save to get one for the living room!

Bought this light in medium for over a dining table in our 20's home. Looks great, and instantly transforms the space. The only reason for 4 stars is that we currently have it hanging via a swag hook until we can get an electrician to center it over the table. Using this setup, the cord going from the base to the hook is bent and crimped in places since it's not supporting any weight to make it tight. No worries though... still love it.

First off, the Saucer lamp and the other Nelson lamps are simply gorgeous. But you know this! I have wanted one for a while and finally took advantage of a sale with free shipping on YLighting and purchased the Large Saucer. For the price, this lamp is a great deal! We have a MCM ranch with an open living / dining space and sloped ceiling. The large saucer has instantly become the focal point of the room...which is a perfect role for it. Be aware, the Large size is rather huge (I can't imagine the XL size hanging in any home). I could have gotten away with the medium but love the big one! As far as the purchase experience goes, it couldn't have been better. The thing arrived in a huge box with an uber-cool Modernica Bubble Lamp sticker on it. Don't worry about the shipping of this fragile lamp...the box it comes in is excellent. Installation was very simple, the hardest part was getting the hideous ceiling lamp down and out to the trash, and that took 5 minutes. I was a little nervous hanging the lamp as it does seem rather fragile (despite a surprising amount of weight). If you were to drop a screwdriver on it just right, expect tears. Anyway, no need to read a bunch of reviews...you know you want it, so buy it! Fantastic lamps.

After reading all the reviews posted, I can only add the following. I was very disappointed that it took over a week to process the order. Once I finally received the shipping confirmation, I received the Nelson saucer in a timely manner & intact. It was easy to install but did outgas an odor for about 10 days. Here is my big tip for those who also purchased the small saucer & were unhappy with the low light level. Switch to the new LED 60 watt equivalent. It gives off a much brighter light, has a long life & saves energy. My wife & I are thrilled with our purchase! We wanted to installed a medium saucer but the ceiling fixture was too close to a corner to do so.

This lamp was exactly what I wanted for our living room. As the single overhead light in our 10' x 20' living room (with only 10' ceilings), I wanted something to physically fill the space and to give a tiny visual "kick" to our otherwise contemporary, conservatively decorated room. The medium saucer light did just that. I think the small would be lovely in a corner space, but the large would only work if one had much higher ceilings than we do. We checked that my 6'0" spouse can, in fact, walk under the light without ducking. However, 99% of the time there's a coffee table underneath, so it's moot.

I put a lower watt bulb in than necessary, as we have specific task lighting & reading lights elsewhere in the room, and the warm glow at night is simply lovely.

Installation was a breeze, as there was already a light fixture in the same location. The light itself is very light-weight, belying its size, and I'm not at all worried about its attachment.

My only warning: my honey likes to hum the opening bars from "Close Encounter of the 3rd Kind" every time I turn on the saucer light, but he smiles when he does it.

I purchased the small version of this lamp and converted it to a wall plug hanging pendant over a changing table in a nursery. It looks fantastic and emits the softest white light. The small version is only rated for 60watts max, which is odd since the rest of the Nelson lamps are rated for 150watts - even ones with small shades. I wish it came with longer cord as finding similar lamp cord for rewiring was a major hassle.

We couldn't be more pleased with this light. It is the third Nelson Bubble we have installed, the other two being the medium saucer and large cigar (small saucer this time). We have a mid-century modern home and installed these at the front hall/bottom of stairs (sm saucer), in the tall space above the stair landing (cigar) and at the top of the stairs (med saucer). These are definitely iconic mid-century, and have a great richness of light coming through the fabric covering. These have greatly improved the vibe of the house, replacing crystal and glass fixtures that were somewhat out of place.

Shipping was immediate from y lighting, and installation was a snap. Very basic in terms of difficulty.

Our only tip would be that the small saucer is so "shallow" in the vertical dimension (about 7.5 ins.) that the bottom of a normal lightbulb is much more visible through the bottom ring than it is on the larger bubbles (some glare if you are close enough to it). This is improved by using a shorter bulb such as a Sylvania CFL bulb.

Our ranch house ceilings are really too low for recessed lighting and the rooms are too small for lots of table lamps and floor lamps. The saucer lamp is an amazing solution. Like some reviewers, I was debating between small and medium & went with the medium (a little worried it might be too big). It's PERFECT in size for the space- if you're debating- guess larger!

It came packaged VERY well too! My only slight annoyance was the shipping time. Others commended super-fast shipping, but ours was average to long. It took a couple weeks to get here & based on optimistic reviews I was hoping for quicker shipping. That being said- it's no reflection of the product & likely has much to do with where you're located.

That it can use a 150W bulb is a plus. However, the original, which was hanging in my childhood home, was covered in a cotton (I think) fabric not a polymer and so was much more beautiful. However, since it will be hanging about 9' off the floor, I don't think the covering will be an issue. The classic Nelson form remains.

Beautiful light! I purchased the George Nelson Saucer lamp in the medium size for my bedroom. The room is not large yet I wanted the additional light bulb wattage that the medium offers over the small.

Shipping was very fast and when the lamp arrived at my doorstep and I saw the size of the box my heart sank. The box was gigantic and I worried the lamp was much too big. When I removed the lamp from the box I was still worried. Now, after easy installation, the lamp looks great. I love the fact that it is oversized. The medium saucer pendant arrived quickly and safely packed from Y Lighting. It's in a 9' x 14' guest bedroom set against a white ceiling and dark purplish grey walls, which set off the simple, clean white lines of the lamp nicely. I bought the medium size lamp which fits nicely over our dining room table. At first I wasn't sure it was big enough, but now I think it's just right. The lamp arrived quickly and in perfect shape. The lamp is exactly what was advertised on the website. Service was very good and I recieved the product quickly.

I am worried it might be too big for my space. The smaller lamp would only accomodate a very low wattage bulb so I had to go with the size M lamp. It would be nice if the smaller lamp would accomodate a larger bilb so the lamp could be more functional.

Please pass my concern on to the manufacturer.

I was going to get the small saucer lamp, but after I gave the table dimensions and ceiling height to the sales person, he recommmed the medium lamp. I was a little concerned when it arrived because it was so much larger than the existing lamp. As it turns out, the medium is perfect! It gives so much more light than the old lamp and it is beautiful. It has changed the appearance of the room---I love it!

I had always wanted this lamp and very pleased to see it every day hanging over the dining table. The large version is large, but the smaller one would have been too small. Light is on a dimmer so it works well for task, dinner, or anything. I was worried that the canopy would be inferior but it looks very polished and contemporary in my room.

This is such a clean modern design and really looks stunning when lit up. The light fixture came very well packaged. Was super easy to install with plenty of cord length to adjust height. The small saucer size it quite flat. We have only have a very small dining area with table for 4. If our space was any bigger I would need the medium size at least.

I had done all my homework on sizing a pendant for over the kitchen table and the medium Nelson Saucer, measuring 25 inches in diameter was a few inches over the maximum for my table size and room. It also looked massive once I took it out of the box. The gentleman I spoke to at YLighting gave me some valuable advice and told me that it's better to ere on the larger size - he was so right. My ceilings are 7 ft high but they look 9 ft with this pendant. A very easy way to shop and dither,

My biggest criticism would be regarding the packaging. By the time our light arrived, the box it was packed in had been nearly destroyed. In fact, we took photos of the box prior to opening it, just in case we had to make a freight claim. Being such a delicate item, I am surprised there wasn't more padding/protection inside the box. Other than that, we love the product itself.
