Ali was born and raised in Iran. He was studying Physical Education at Ahwaz University when revolution in 1979 led to the closure of universities. He abandoned his studies and began working with sign makers. After establishing himself as a sign designer, the war became too much to bear and he moved to Britain in 1988. He picked up his studies and received his Bachelors degree in Graphic Design, followed by a Masters in Industrial Design at St. Martins College of Art and Design. While doing his dissertation, Ali became interested in working with objects of everyday use and transforming them into light fixtures. His work brings humor into simple objects and represents design in a way that brings these objects closer to his audience. Alis work today is sponsored by the British European Design Group and has been exhibited in major international exhibitions.
