Design by Matali Crasset.
By Fabbian.

The Stick collection stems from an Ayous wood module, the shape of which is inspired by that of a pair of pliers: two bent elements stretched by a central support. The texture of the wood permits soft light diffusion while the repitition of the module creates an effect of unexpected graphics and shadows.
"The goal to be achieved - says Matali Casset - is for the light to develop in the interior, creating separate areas and, at the same time, to filter without fully delimiting the spaces; this type of effect is achieved thanks to "space-objects" which have this dual function. It is a return to the essence and a way of showing that design is first and foremost creative strength."

The Stick wall light provides diffused aambient illumination. Painted metal frame and detailing. Uses a self-ballasted compact fluorescent lamp.

Matali Crasset

Matali Crasset is a French industrial designer. In the 1990's, she worked as an apprentice for two outstanding masters of design: Philippe Starck in France and Denis Santachiara in Italy. In 1998, in the Paris quarter of Belleville, she set up her company: Matali Crasset Productions. Her designs are created by observing the world with constantly new eyes, calling into question pre-established codes in order to surpass them. Her continuing research prompts her to cooperate in many different directions - with private individuals seeking a new home context, large industrial concerns wishing to innovate, hotels in search of a new concept, and museums wanting a face lift. Her proposals are not limited to improving what already exists, they formulate new logics that rotate around modularity and interlinking concepts.

what kind of wood is used on this fixture? is it possible to get a sample? can you do custom finishes?

Asked by: lauren24
This line of fixtures is made from Ayouda wood, which is imported from Africa. The manufacturer chooses to leave the wood untreated and unstained in its natural state, so as such, these fixtures are not offered in other finishes. The nature and flexibility of the wood make it a good option for the design, whereas other woods may strain or break under the pressure of being bent. A sample can be ordered for you if you like. If you are interested, send a quick email to orders@ylighting.com with your name and address, and we will contact the manufacturer directly so that they can ship it to you. Thanks for contacting us!
