FLOS Lighting

FLOS was founded in 1962. The very same year they began producing a number of lamps that were to become classics in Italian industrial design. These first lamps were Arco, Relemme, Toio and Taccia all designed by Achille and Piergiacomo Castiglioni. As a tangible proof of their timeless design and technical excellence, these lamps continue to be produced today.

It all started with cocoon . . .In 1959 Arturo Eisenkeil from Merano, an importer of cocoon — a spray-on plastic coating produced in the United States — was tracking down possible applications for this new material. He joined forces with Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina and set up a company to produce lighting fixtures. This marked the beginning of the long-standing association in the area of design with the Castiglioni brothers and Tobia Scarpa. The first cocoon lamps ever created were the offspring of this collaboration: Viscontea, Taraxacum and Gatto by the Castiglioni brothers and Fantasma by Scarpa. FLOS moved from Merano to the province of Brescia in 1964: At first to Nave and then to the current premises in Bovezzo. Sergio Gandini became chairman of the company in 1965. In 1974, the company became the owner of Arteluce one of the key Italian companies in the industrial design sector. Gino Sarfatti, an industrialist and designer, is the founder of Arteluce. Several models designed by Sarfatti himself have been incorporated into the product range.

From the very outset, FLOS has been characterized by its high-quality approach to lamp design and production. Many of the numerous lamps designed for the company, first by Achille and Piergiacomo, are undoubtedly some of the best-known and most successful products of industrial design. They have won awards and historical critical accolades, and are included in all the most important collections and design museums around the world.

FLOS' production will continue to be imbued with various design trends that embody their attention to leading-edge research combined with highly-efficient production, sales and communications. In 2002, the company celebrated forty years production of designer lamps.

I got this as task lighting. But I was in doubt since most LED lighting looks bright but does not have enough wattages. But as soon as I opened the box, all might doubts disappeared. The design itself is amazing. It is pretty bright and diffuser reduces hard spots. The only disappointing part was the base that had a lot of scratch marks which seemed to have occurred due to plastic air bags during shipping. However, ylighting took great care of it and the replacement part is on its way. I love my kelvin lamp.

Outstanding Product

The Kelvin Table Lamp is everything it promises and more-great design and functionality...swipe the top of the lamp-it turns it on (to low or high). Swipe it again and it turns it off...sort of the "Apple" of the lighting world! It compliments my modern interior...a pleasure to look at.

It's just right

I've been on the hunt for a desk/task light for several weeks. This one works in many ways: it's modern design, sleek looks without being over the top, solid base, and two-level lighting makes it perfect for my home office.

The lighting is warmer than my previous CFL desk lamp and is also warmer than another LED lamp that I was considering. I'm very happy with the Kelvin LED Table Lamp and would not hesitate to add another one when needed.

this is an awesome light. i love how it is turned on, dimmed, and then off by gently stroking the light head with one's finger. the LED light is not at all cold. and the adjustability is excellent. we are contemplating getting another one.

Amazing high-quality lamp

I have been looking for handsome bedside lamps that give good light (that's the hard part!) since we moved into our new home last year. Some look good but give lousy light, most are light, junky, poorly made. The weight of the bases, the quality of the finish, the fluid mechanism, the extremely cool switch (you just wave your hand over it), and most important, the fabulous illumination; totally worth it.

The most awesome lamp ever

I saw this lamp and hesitated buying it because of the price. When I finally pulled the trigger, I was thrilled. (And probably ruined for Ikea lighting forever . . . ) This is the most beautifully built, awesomely engineered, incredibly functional lamp we have ever had. We are using them bedside. The ultra-heavy base means they don't wiggle around or fall over. Even the fact that the LED doesn't throw off heat is wonderful. But the best thing is the cool switch that you just wave your finger over.

Beautiful design, low energy usage

The light that this LED desk lamp gives off is nothing like the harsh white that you've probably seen before - it is warm and must cover more spectrum. The lamp itself is a clean, purposeful design and is an instant classic. It moves and adjusts smoothly and has every indication that it will last a long time. Highly recommended.

Excellent, high quality

This lamp has a very high quality, warm color. I'm impressed with the lacquered finish which looks great in real life. I bought white but I'm sure the black is nice as well. The only downside is that you have to touch the switch 3 times to turn it off - it doubles as a dimmer. Otherwise a great lamp and a quality product.

Is as good as it looks.

The product is great. It's a good quality build. It looks light and minimalist, but it's surprisingly sturdy. You can tell that an effort was made to ensure quality; even the packaging is nicely done! The only thing I might have done differently was choose the cool lighting. The warm lighting too far off white.

Cool design, but light not quite right...

Very nice design, but the light produced by this light had a slightly odd yellow tinge to it. It was esp. noticeable compared to the tungsten light in my old desk lamp.

I am very disappointed in this product

Looks great but electrical connection is very fragile. Once broken, there is no repair part and the company will not fix it. You just threw away money. Very bad service.
