FLOS was founded in 1962. The very same year they began producing a number of lamps that were to become classics in Italian industrial design. These first lamps were Arco, Relemme, Toio and Taccia Ñ all designed by Achille and Piergiacomo Castiglioni. As a tangible proof of their timeless design and technical excellence, these lamps continue to be produced today.
It all started with cocoon . . .In 1959 Arturo Eisenkeil from Merano, an importer of cocoon — a spray-on plastic coating produced in the United States — was tracking down possible applications for this new material. He joined forces with Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina and set up a company to produce lighting fixtures. This marked the beginning of the long-standing association in the area of design with the Castiglioni brothers and Tobia Scarpa. The first cocoon lamps ever created were the offspring of this collaboration: Viscontea, Taraxacum and Gatto by the Castiglioni brothers and Fantasma by Scarpa.FLOS moved from Merano to the province of Brescia in 1964: At first to Nave and then to the current premises in Bovezzo. Sergio Gandini became chairman of the company in 1965. In 1974, the company became the owner of Arteluce Ñ one of the key Italian companies in the industrial design sector. Gino Sarfatti, an industrialist and designer, is the founder of Arteluce. Several models designed by Sarfatti himself have been incorporated into the product range.
From the very outset, FLOS has been characterized by its high-quality approach to lamp design and production. Many of the numerous lamps designed for the company, first by Achille and Piergiacomo, are undoubtedly some of the best-known and most successful products of industrial design. They have won awards and historical critical accolades, and are included in all the most important collections and design museums around the world.
FLOS' production will continue to be imbued with various design trends that embody their attention to leading-edge research combined with highly-efficient production, sales and communications. In 2002, the company celebrated forty yearsÕ production of designer lamps.

We love these little lights.
Cute, elegant, modern, fabulous! We love these little lights. I have used them in my own home and recommended them to clients. Great price, great quality.
I purchased two lights for a narrow walk-in closet. The size is perfect for the area while still giving off enough light to pick out clothes. I chose the bronze finish which is nicer with a warmer color scheme than the typical white metal. And with the price, it's great to have a lamp that looks so nice but that I didn't have to save up for!

Elegant small wall lamp.
This is an elegant little wall lamp that is great for a hallway where you don't want anything to stick out too far. It is well made with all of the mounting screws completely hidden. Very easy to install.
I just wish it came in a brushed nickel finish.

Beautiful and bright
Awesome contemporary sconce and looks even better in person. Well made, good quality bronze fixture. I'm amazed how a bright this light is for its size and grey glass diffuser. Well thought out packaging and quite easy to install. Tempted to buy another pair to replace existing, new bathroom sconces from Restoration Hardware.

Perfect lights!
These lights are the perfect accent for our living room. We were happy to see that the shade comes in a few different colors. Perfect amount of light for a low-key feel. We didn't want anything too bright in our living room and these lights are just perfect.

A perfect combination of contemporary design and function.
After looking at hundreds of units, I was very pleased to find the perfect unit for my completely redecorated home, a contemporary, architect designed place. The sleek, polished chrome, unobtrusive, yet functional, unit was perfect for my bathrooms. I recommend them highly.

Lights arrived in no time without any damage. Installation was easy even-though my husband claimed he had to alter the light's wall plate to fit the "pancake" already inside the wall, took just a few minutes. Tilee is elegant, clean and simplel with the unique gray glass we chose. It has a soft glowing light that fits well with our modern tiles. How can you go wrong with a Flos light that costs about $100 ?. In fact we are going to purchase a few more.

Beautiful
I had a little difficulty installing this light on an older home since the mounting plate on the fixture is really made for one of the more modern electrical boxes. But the light itself is very well made and quite beautiful. It's great as an accent light.

Nice and simple light.
very nice fixture from Flos, we use it from both sides of mirror cabinet in bath, i love the look and you will be hard stressed to find a comparable fixture at this price. not the back plate is small so you have to be precise on where you locate the elec box.

good value, require precise install
This is a solid product, good design and finish. Highly recommended for use in relatively small rooms and hallways. The gray glass shade works well in bright rooms and with darker wall colors. If brightness of the light is important to you, choose the white glass shade.

In contrast to new construction housings, remodeling housings are appropriate when you have limited or no access to the space above a new fixture, such as in an apartment or a home without crawl spaces or attics above.
New Construction Housings
In contrast to remodeling housings, new construction housings are bulkier and need to be installed between joist beams or onto hangar bars and thus you need full access to the space above the fixture. This style is best used if you are building in a new space, gutting a room, or have an attic above or pop out ceiling, etc.
Non-IC Rated
Non-IC stands for: non insulation contact. Thus, non-IC-rated housings must be kept at least 3 inches away from any insulation.
