FontanaArte

Architect Gio Ponti founded FontanaArte in 1932 as an artistic division of the Luigi Fontana Company. Historically, the company has been a leader in advanced glass manufacturing and design. The company's works were first distinguished by its realization of artistic stained-glass windows, many of which are today still functional elements and ornamental features of churches and cathedrals, among them the Duomo of Milan and the Cathedral of Brasilia. By using glass, Ponti realized what an enormous potential this material could offer in the in the making of furnishing complements for interiors, and he started to design and produce furniture, lamps and objects with glass as the main distinguishing feature. Soon a new collection was ready to be marketed, and his new design concept was being used as a complement to the interior decoration of many houses that he personally designed. Over the years, FontanaArte has had many contributors to its designs, including Pietro Chiesa, Gae Aulenti, Pierluigi Cerri, Piero Castiglioni, Vico Magistretti, Vittorio Gregotti, Ettore Sottsass, Umberto Riva, Alvaro Siza and Renzo Piano.

Great look, harsh light.

Although I'm a fan of both Fontana Arte and Alvaro Siza, I had to return this lamp. Although the halogen bulb has a frosted glass cover, it's still extremely harsh and unpleasant when viewed on end--and it's impossible to mount in any way that you don't, at some point, view it on end.

Poor lighting quality

Attractive light fixture, well made, but terrible light quality--impossible to position it to avoid the glare from the bulb out the end of the fixture. Even on low it was very harsh.

Great light for small spaces or bedside.

I have used this in a few of my projects. It works well by bed sides where you don't want to take up table space but don't have ability to hardwire (it is a plug in).

Sleek, minimal and timeless.

Nice, but overpriced at the end of the day.

It's a good looking lamp, but nothing so spectacular that warrants a large price tag. This light should cost less, esp. given how small it is! The craftsmanship is pretty good, but I agree with the other reviews that it does have somewhat of a harsh glare. However, I find the glare tolerable at the dimmer setting.

A word of caution: The halogen bulb is really tricky to get in and requires quite a bit of force - I sat there for 20 min thinking they sent me the wrong bulb when they in fact didn't.
