FontanaArte

Architect Gio Ponti founded FontanaArte in 1932 as an artistic division of the Luigi Fontana Company. Historically, the company has been a leader in advanced glass manufacturing and design. The company's works were first distinguished by its realization of artistic stained-glass windows, many of which are today still functional elements and ornamental features of churches and cathedrals, among them the Duomo of Milan and the Cathedral of Brasilia. By using glass, Ponti realized what an enormous potential this material could offer in the in the making of furnishing complements for interiors, and he started to design and produce furniture, lamps and objects with glass as the main distinguishing feature. Soon a new collection was ready to be marketed, and his new design concept was being used as a complement to the interior decoration of many houses that he personally designed. Over the years, FontanaArte has had many contributors to its designs, including Pietro Chiesa, Gae Aulenti, Pierluigi Cerri, Piero Castiglioni, Vico Magistretti, Vittorio Gregotti, Ettore Sottsass, Umberto Riva, Alvaro Siza and Renzo Piano.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Timeless eclectic retro modern The Flute 3 is one of the coolest pendant designs I've seen. The round chrome reflectors give the Flute 3 a retro feel. But the minimal track and the cone shape clear glass diffusers surrounding the reflectors make the Flute 3 a timeless modern piece. The three 60-watt bulbs yield enough brightness for any task lighting needs, making it perfect over a table or counter space.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Pendants The Flute 3 Pendant Lamp is gorgeous and completely changed the look of my new kitchen. It was a bit difficult to install, however, so make sure you hire professionals to do the job. Otherwise, I would recommend this product!

We are looking for a pendant fixture to go over an 8' island.  Does this fixture give off enough task lighting for that purpose, given its candelabra base bulb?  If it does, would we want 2 or 3 "flutes"?

Asked by: Jocko
Each of these flutes features a 60W max 120V G16 1/2 E12 bulb, each of which gives off between 2,500 and 3,000K. The Kelvin scale is used to measure color temperature, with the lower temperatures on the scale corresponding to warmer light. Bulbs that fall within the 2,500-3,000K range are relatively warm, allowing for ambiance without being too dim to be functional. I recommend going with the option with 3 flutes, that way your kitchen area will be lit with a warm, cheery light that is appropriate for a kitchen, but the combined effect of all three bulbs will still light the area effectively.
