    Patricia Urquiola

    Patricia Urquiola

Born in Oviedo, a town of Northern Spain, Patricia Urquiola studied first in Madrid and then in Milan where in 1989 she graduated from the Milan Polytechnic with her thesis supervised by the internationally renowned designer and architect Achille Castiglioni. Even though from a sociocultural point of view she is very attached to the Spanish tradition, the studies she got involved with influenced her to such an extent that she became of the most important figures of modern Italian design.

From 1990 to 1992 she taught in the role of assistant professor at the Milan Polytechnic, and at the Ensci (Ecole nationale supérieure de création industrielle) in Paris, France. During that period she also started a partnership with the Italian design company Maddalena De Padova where she met another internationally renowned designer, Vico Magistretti, with whom she designed the chair Flower, the sofa Loom, and the horizontal chair Chaise Longue. Like Achille Castiglioni, Vico Mgistretti noticed her talent and advised her to aspire to achieve the highest professional standards at a worldwide level.

From 1993 to 1996 she worked in a design workshop that she had initiated with other designers where she was involved in architectural planning of buildings, interior design, and exhibition design. In 1998 she started partnership with the firm Moroso and created elegant upholstered pieces of furniture that people found irresistible.

Patricia Urquiola while working in harmony with the highest academic standards, also takes into consideration the impact that her products have on the vast public. She focuses on the design of exchangeable units without using modular elements, and successfully creates environments designed to encourage positive feelings and company.

From 1996 she is a coordinator of the design group of the company Lissoni Associati and articulates her professional activity around countless work partnerships with design and architecture companies of worldwide importance like her teachers Achille Castiglioni and Vico Magistretti had wished.

    Very elegant design

We recently renovated our living/dining/kitchen and installed the Piccola wall light in our living/dining area it is great, simple but yet detailed. I had a dimmer hooked up to it and it really works beautifully and adds flexibility. I ordered it while my wife was away and was worried she might not like it, but she loved it which was a relief. So far all our guests have complimented it. It really fits in with our mid century modern furnishings.

    modern and classic in one

After a long search, I finally purchased 3 Caboche wall lights for my hallway. They have literally lit up the space. I wanted something that has a distinctive style but not too fancy or busy. I'm very pleased with the outcome.

The light is beautiful, bright and modern.

The light is gorgeous. easy to put together, but no light bulb. My only criticism is that you can see the plastic lines behind the balls, and I can see the underneath of the light. But generally the light is a stunner,. I have put it in my entryway, but it would look pretty anywhere.

    Absolutely gorgeous and unique.

I am not easily pleased and don't like standard fare lighting. This wall light is going to be a great conversation piece. It's in my lounge area between kitchen and dining room and my space is super modern so this fits right in. I really like it more than I thought I would from the picture. I did think the balls were glass though and they are some kind of plastic, but look great!

The Caboche is an elegant eye catching series

The Caboche is very eye-catching and has a lot of dimension to it because of way light bouches through and around the plastic balls. It's an elegant number to light up a small space and adds character to any room. It can be placed in an ultra modern context or a more traditional one as it looks like it could be made of glass.

    Remodel Housings

In contrast to new construction housings, remodeling housings are appropriate when you have limited or no access to the space above a new fixture, such as in an apartment or a home without crawl spaces or attics above.

    New Construction Housings

In contrast to remodeling housings, new construction housings are bulkier and need to be installed between joist beams or onto hangar bars and thus you need full access to the space above the fixture. This style is best used if you are building in a new space, gutting a room, or have an attic above or pop out ceiling, etc.

    Non-IC Rated

Non-IC stands for: non insulation contact. Thus, non-IC-rated housings must be kept at least 3 inches away from any insulation.

    IC Rated

IC stands for: insulation contact. Thus, IC-rated housings can come in direct contact with thermal insulation.

    MR16 Halogen Bulb

MR 16 is a standard format for halogen multifaceted reflector light bulbs. MR16 lamps are regularly used in place of standard incandescent light bulbs as they harness and shoot light, resulting in less light loss than a traditional bulb. These are best used when you want focused light such as in a pendant over a countertop or an accent light on a painting.
