Gubi was founded in 1967 in Copenhagen by Gubi and Lisbeth Olsen. Gubi is rooted in Scandinavia but has a distinctive global outlook and sense of aesthetics. Their expanding portfolio of lights reflects a wide range of designs- they have searched around the world and into the past for timeless designs, and they have also discovered enduring designs from new talents.
Chasing forgotten icons has led Gubi to the re-launch of designs from the 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's. Originally created by artists, sculptors, designers and architects from France, Italy, England, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, Germany, Japan and elsewhere. Gubi includes designs from talented professionals whose work has been featured at MoMA in New York, Victoria & Albert Museum, London's Design Museum, the National Museum in Stockholm and the Arktikum Museum in Finland, among others. Each piece is exquisite in its own right with a story to tell, capturing a fleeting moment in history which remains relevant to this day.
The result is an eclectic, intercontinental collection that blurs the lines between the past and the future. An extensive assortment of extremely aesthetic, thought-provoking designs characterized by simple yet elegant shapes, original materials and innovative techniques which defy time and space. Their modern lighting collection is imbued with a beauty that resonates with design aficionados, architects and designers all around the world.
