Design by Ron Rezek.
By The Modern Fan Company.

The Modern Fan Company breaks new ground with an all mouth-blown glass bodied ceiling fan, the Halo. The high quality European glass gives the fan its form, translucency and lighting diffusion. The lower opal glass, which holds the light source, lights the room and casts gentle light into the upper glass making the whole fan glow. With the fluorescent option the fan qualifies for the EPA's Energy Star labeling as a highly efficient, energy conserving design.

The rotor, which sits on the top of the fan, is die-cast aluminum and, along with the other metal components, is finished in textured nickel complemented by opal glass or gloss white with amber glass. The four blades are plywood construction, painted in matte nickel or white and are available with a 42" or 52" blade span. The motor is a high power silicon steel design with 16 poles. These motors are designed for long life and silent running, and are controlled by dual capacitors. The fan speed and the light can be operated by one of several control options. The light source may be specified as either incandescent or fluorescent. Note: Any control ordered with a fan that has been configured with an energy-saving CFL will be supplied in a non-dimming version.

Includes 3" and 9" downrods for 18" or 24" overall height. Optional downrods are available for alternate heights. The Halo fan can accommodate a sloped ceiling up to 33°. For slopes over 33° but under 45°, use the sloped ceiling adapter (sold separately).

  • Airflow measured in cubic feet per minute at high speed (CFM) = 5888.26
  • Watts at high speed = 71.3
  • Airflow efficiency at high speed (CFM/Watts) = 83.99

Ron Rezek

Ron Rezek designed the world's first contemporary-styled ceiling fan, the Stratos, in 1986. But his list of accomplishments in the design world is long and varied, from lifeguard equipment to contemporary lighting. In 1997, Ron started The Modern Fan Co. in Ashland, Oregon, which produces and sells only contemporary ceiling fans.

His ceiling fans have been widely used in hotels, restaurants, retail and institutional applications, and all types of residential projects.

Ron Rezek's Philosophy:
"I don't think contemporary means a stark white room. I think it means a tasteful alignment of important elements. There are some designers who copy the Modernists who have come before. But I think 'contemporary' is the pursuit of the new." "People assume that all contemporary fixtures are more functional than traditional ones. That is because contemporary fixtures are easier to clean and they seem to be more utilitarian based on their appearance. And because of their simplicity and lack of ornamentation, they also have an alliance with the industrial look. But all of this doesn't necessarily translate into function. The Modern Fan Co.'s fans are designed to be functional and energy efficient. This is part of being contemporary and pushing the edge. Energy efficiency is the wave of the future."

Designed by Ron Rezek, the Modern Fan Company's models celebrate the modern idiom through mechanical simplification, geometric forms and contemporary finishes. The unique ceiling fan styles of Modern Fan represent a new age in ceiling fans — the marrying of efficient function with contemporary design (you won't find any wicker or flowery fans here!).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Terrific fan and lovely light fixture in one! I have a Modern Fan in my home office and we have to keep it on low as it is so powerful it blows the papers right off the desk. So when we decided to replace the old hideous ceiling fan in our bedroom, Modern Fan Company was our only choice for manufacturer. This fan is beautiful -- it has very sleek fan blades and is very powerful. It has four settings and moves the air in our very large room wonderfully well. The lamp is modern, with clean lines and nice diffused lighting. The only drawback is one is limited to 100w lightbulb and the lamp moves quite a bit when the fan is on the highest setting. Overall, we are extremely pleased with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ylighting's #1 fan (pun intended) I had been looking at modern style fans for well over 2 years - I needed just the right one for my master bedroom... So, last year when I discovered the Halo at DWR - I fell in love with it. However, I didn't fall in love with the pricetag. I was overjoyed to find the same fan at ylighting for almost half the cost! The style is perfect, the price exceptional, and the installation directions were simple to follow. The halo was my first ceiling fan install ever and it took me about 2 hours by myself to make sure that everything was installed correctly and securely. I love the versatility of having both the wall control and the remote, and the airflow is perfect for those warm Vegas nights!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Efficient, looks expensive, and adds a modern feel to room The fan took about 45 minutes to install. It is a straight forward installation. The directions were easy to follow. The down rods and canopy have a silver glitter appearance to them which is difficult to discern in the photos provided on the web site. It looks good and I like it, however, I was not aware that it had a sparkle-like appearance until I opened the box. The design of the light is good. There are two separate frosted glass pieces that attach to the fan in two different locations. The lower glass hangs down low past the bulb so that it is not blinding you when you look at the fan. The remote control is very simple to use. I would purchase another fan from the Modern Fan Company in a heart beat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty fan, even with a light kit. Typically I find ceiling fans with light kits to be ugly, but the Halo is very attractive. It is rather large and works best in a room with a high ceiling and an extension rod of about 36". I have two of these models and they are silent and beautiful, with no wobble. Unfortunately, I have two other Halos that are on the 3" rod and I can't seem to get one of them to stop wobbling. I took it down and re-installed it and have not been able to balance the fan, despite a great deal of effort. I plan to call the Modern Fan Company tomorrow to troubleshoot. Also, 2 of the 4 light kits arrived with broken glass, but yLighting was very responsive and had the replacement glass sent out immediately. Excellent customer service.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Quality Modern Style Fan This is a nice fan for the price. It is an easy installation and very quiet. We were disappointed with a couple of things. The textured nickel color is more gold than nickel and the texture is kinda funky. But the plus side of all that is that the glass fixtures are so large that you will not see the textured nickel base. And that leads into the 2nd disappointment. The glass fixtures are larger than what we thought. Fortunately we had planned to install this in a high vaulted ceiling so it does work. My suggestion is that you should not consider this fan for a normal height ceiling. Only high vaulted ceilings where it will not be the only thing you see in that room. Overall it is a nice looking fan that will serve the purpose for our home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful, minimal and high quality fan; easy installation From a design point of view, this fan is unusual in that, when installed, it looks more like a ceiling light with a fan on top if it and less like a fan with a light hanging from the bottom. The white blades are minimal and blend into the white ceiling above. The double glass fixture is beautiful and creates very nice patterns when turned on. I got the remote as well as the wall switch and both work great. Installation was straightforward for the most part but I've installed one before. One just needs to be patient and methodical and it goes up pretty easily, even on my 10 1/2 foot ceiling. The hardest part was not falling off my ladder! I would recommend this fan and would buy another one if I needed one. I would also recommend a sturdy ladder. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this fan! The Halo ceiling fan is very quiet during operation. The light fixture on the fan is a piece of art. My ceilings are high so the light appears as a piece of art in the space. I would not recommend this fan for a small room with a low ceiling. At night the light the light emitted from the fixture is beautiful. I have a amber and white globe. I had an electrician install the fan in the place of an old existing one. I used a remote and it took a few attempts to get all the wires and remote transponder to fit in the canopy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Product It is a nice product that works well. One piece of advice is to get the bigger blades. We got the model that does not hang down that far, with the shorter blades, which does not look exactly like the picture (the light is quite large in proportion to the blades, making it look less sleek). Make sure to look at the measurements before purchasing. It also took us a while to install (had some strange things happening until we removed the dimmer switch on the wall). After installing, it worked beautifully.
