The bulb remains a recurrent theme in Ingo Maurer's work. One of his latest lamps is an homage to Thomas Alva Edison, the inventor of the light bulb. The hanging lamp, Eddie's Son, features a hologram of a light bulb. The hologram is visible 360° on the cylinder.

Composed of plastic and metal. Halogen 125 volts, 50 watts, socket GY 6.35 Osram Ministar lamp. Transformer integrated in canopy, diameter 13 cm. Complete with bulb. Diffuser dimensions 9.85"D X 6.3"H. Cable length 78.74", for shorter heights the cable is looped.

Voltage: 125V

Max. Power: 50 W

Please note: Never expose the hologram to direct sunlight, as UV radiation can spoil the film or cause the hologram to fade. Care should also be taken to avoid exposure to tobacco smoke and excessive humidity.

Ingo Maurer

Ingo Maurer, the son of a fisherman, was born May 12, 1932 on the island Reichenau in Lake of Constance, Germany. He trained as a typo-grapher in Germany and Switzerland and later went on to study graphic design (1954 to 1958). In 1960 Maurer left Germany for the United States, where he worked in New York and San Francisco as a freelance graphic designer. During this time he developed a genuine love for New York City and the feeling that "All things were possible" there. In 1963, Maurer moved back to Germany and founded Design M where he was able to develop and manufacture lamps after his own designs. One of his first designs, Bulb (1966), was inspired after a night out and later looking at a bare-bulb fixture in the ceiling. The Edison bulb has a special quality, its shape was simple yet most beautiful. The Bulb was the first of many homages to the Edison bulb, an object that Ingo Maurer holds in high regard. Bulb, along with many of his works, is included in the design collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Many of his designs are based on the fascination of banal things, ordinary objects that are seen every day and no longer noticed. He takes them out of their context and celebrates them.

Ingo Maurer has been designing and creating award-winnning lighting works for over forty years. His love of the incandescent lamp has not stopped him from trying all the new lighting technologies. His lighting toolbox is filled with high-tech and low-tech, exotic and ordinary things, with useful and useless techniques, with lighting punch and gentle shimmer, with Aah and Argh.... All resulting in works of art that are also fully functional and well-engineered lighting pieces.

I think it is a wonderful, whimsical and fun thing to have in an otherwise semi-serious environment.

I have only seen it in a lighting store, which is why I bought it. It is not yet installed since my apartment is not at the stage where the lighting is up yet.

I thought the buying process at Ylighting was perfect, from the order taking to the packing to the delivery. Thank you.
