Ingo MaurerIngo Maurer is a German industrial designer who is known for the design of his lamps and light installations. Maurer, the son of a fisherman, was born May 12, 1932 on the island Reichenau in Lake of Constance, Germany. After an apprenticeship as a typesetter, he studied graphic design in Munich, Germany. In 1960 Maurer left Germany for the United States, where he worked in New York and San Francisco as a freelance graphic designer. In 1963, Maurer moved back to Germany and founded Design M where he was able to develop and manufacture lamps after his own designs. One of his first designs, Bulb (1966) has been included in the design collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Since the early 1980's Maurer has worked with a team of designers and developers has received numerous awards for his work. Ingo MaurerGerman born artist and light objects designer, Ingo Maurer has been the recipient of many design awards and his work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, including the Centre Georges Pompidou, the Fondation Cartier in Paris, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Considered an outsider with rare artistic style, Ingo Maurer is an 'outsider', a designer rare to find: he adds provocation and fun to our ever so smooth design world. Customer Reviewselegant but fragile Although the fixture has an elegant form and finish and lights a small area beautifully, it ultimately does not function up to promises and is not adequately supported by the retailer and manufacturer. It is not easily adjustable in height and so must be set and more or less kept at one height, losing any advantage to its advertised adjustability. Also, the fragility of the materials and design lead to difficulties achieving an even alignment. As the fixture is non-returnable, the risk of dissatisfaction is too great to make the choice worthwhile. By: the kitchen fixer, Designer (MA) Free Shipping. Price Guarantee. Easy Returns.
