Design by Moritz Waldemeyer along with Ingo Maurer and team, 2013.
Made in Germany by Ingo Maurer.

My New Flame is a distinctive table 'candle' that never burns down. At the upper end of a sleek circuit board, a candle seems to flicker in the wind. Up close, you will perceive a double-sided rectangular display made of 128 LEDs (each side), which renders the image of a burning flame. From a slight distance, the LEDs 'melt' into the image of a single flame. Sophisticated programming of the LEDs and their warm color temperature make the flame look astonishingly realistic. A movie of a burning flame was converted to pixel data and then coded to each individual LED to reflect the movement. The luminosity of the two displays is roughly comparable to a standard white candle. The silver circuitry and controllers, visible on board, create an elegant composition of mysterious and delicate ornamentation.

My New Flame stylishly integrates into living rooms, lights up elaborately set tables and serves as a night light for all those who prefer not to fall asleep in the dark. Pulled out from a bag, it lets you create a spontaneous candlelight dinner, where ever you are: at the park, in a car or a badly lit hotel room.

My New Flame can be powered with batteries or with the included 5 foot USB cable. The base accepts 4AA batteries (not included)- use of rechargeable NiMH batteries is recommended. Or, use the USB cable and plug it into a computer or standard USB wall charger to provide power. Rechargeable batteries can be charged directly in the base of the lamp, an LED light will indicate charging status. On/off switch is located on the base. Offered in black or red.

Ingo Maurer

Ingo Maurer, the son of a fisherman, was born May 12, 1932 on the island Reichenau in Lake of Constance, Germany. He trained as a typo-grapher in Germany and Switzerland and later went on to study graphic design (1954 to 1958). In 1960 Maurer left Germany for the United States, where he worked in New York and San Francisco as a freelance graphic designer. During this time he developed a genuine love for New York City and the feeling that "All things were possible" there. In 1963, Maurer moved back to Germany and founded Design M where he was able to develop and manufacture lamps after his own designs. One of his first designs, Bulb (1966), was inspired after a night out and later looking at a bare-bulb fixture in the ceiling. The Edison bulb has a special quality, its shape was simple yet most beautiful. The Bulb was the first of many homages to the Edison bulb, an object that Ingo Maurer holds in high regard. Bulb, along with many of his works, is included in the design collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Many of his designs are based on the fascination of banal things, ordinary objects that are seen every day and no longer noticed. He takes them out of their context and celebrates them.

Ingo Maurer has been designing and creating award-winnning lighting works for over forty years. His love of the incandescent lamp has not stopped him from trying all the new lighting technologies. His lighting toolbox is filled with high-tech and low-tech, exotic and ordinary things, with useful and useless techniques, with lighting punch and gentle shimmer, with Aah and Argh.... All resulting in works of art that are also fully functional and well-engineered lighting pieces.

Ingo Maurer

Ingo Maurer and Team have been designing and manufacturing lighting for over 40 years. Over 60 individuals work together to create products integrating artistic expression with functional elegance. Working in a Munich factory, everything they make is made with the love of detail, master craftsmanship and input from a lot of human hands.

Their passion to create is as strong as their desire to share an enthusiasm for light, and quality lighting objects. They derive immense satisfaction when they are able to build emotional connections between the aesthetic and functional potential of a lamp. They love what they do everyday, and recognize how fortunate they are their creations are loved.
