Occupancy Sensor for use with Z-Bar & Mosso Gen 3 Desk and Floor lamps.

Koncept Lighting

With years of experience in manufacturing and industrial design, the founders established Koncept Lighting in Fall 2002 to design and develop innovative products for home and business. Since then, the company has developed a line of elegant LED desk lamps that are gaining national attention.

Koncept Lighting's flagship product, the Z-Bar LED desk lamp, has been featured in number of media including U.S. News & World Report, Samsung's DigitAll Magazine etc. In 2006, it won "Best of Category" in International Design Magazine's 2006 Annual Design Review in the category of Furniture and was selected into Die Neue Sammlung's permanent collection. The Annual Design Review is America's largest design competition, and Die Neue Sammlung is Europe's largest museum of modern everyday objects of exemplary design, comparable only to the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

In 2007, Time Magazine named the Z-Bar LED desk lamp one of "The Best Inventions Of The Year" and was titled "a green light", basing on the fact that the Z-Bar generates little heat and has a long lifespan compared to traditional lamps. Since then Koncept Lighting has introduced the Z-Bar High Power, which uses higher wattage LEDs to achieve even more energy saving, longer lifespan, and more light output.

The Koncept Lighting goal is to continue to design innovative products that set high standards in the industry and more importantly, make your life safer, simpler and greener.

Cool Sensor

Mosso LED Desk Lamp Occupancy sensor is VERY COOL. Lamp comes on when someone enters the room. Small and unobtrusive. Plugs right into lamp arm. Adjustable angles allows ability to fine tune sensitivity. Definitely get this if you are buying the Desk Lamp.

Works great, but has limited positioning options.

The sensitivity of the sensor is great. It knows as soon as the door to the office is opened. It's really nice to know that I don't need to remember to turn out the lights. However, it does have limited positioning options.

Given the way that the sensor attaches to the lamp, it doesn't allow much flexibility for repositioning. As a result, if you want the occupancy sensor to detect movement any time someone enters the room, it will limit the possible positions in which you can position the lamp.

I'll try to explain. The occupancy sensor plugs in just above the hinge on the lamp, and the sensor can swivel around 360 degrees in a plane. In my situation, this is the only light that I keep on in the office, and I would like for the occupancy sensor to turn it on any time I enter the office. However, in order for that to happen, there is only one position in which I can place the lamp. otherwise, the occupancy sensor doesn't notice any motion until I sit down.

For most, this is probably alright, and it's really not a significant problem, but it is an unfortunate limitation because at first glance, the light seems highly flexible and configurable. Unfortunately, if you want to use the occupancy sensor in a very specific manner, it will implicitly remove some of your configuration options.

Easy to use!

The sensor is actually really easy to use, all you have to do is to plug it in and it works. The only bad thing is that, unless you want your lamp to be on during the day, it is better to turn it off the lamp or turn the sensor so that it's pointed at something that doesn't move (e.g., the base) to "disable" it.

Are you here?

This occupancy sensor is good for certain reasons and locations. I find it somewhat useful because it does turn off in the specified amount of time. My problem is that it is located on a lamp by the entry path to the room. Although no one is occupying the seat with the lamp, its' turnoff time is delayed by walking within range of the sensor. The use and effectiveness of this sensor is dependent upon the location and the inhabitants.

Great concept but poor execution

Having a motion sensor is an amazing thing for table light, however it is not the best if the table is in the bedroom. As the motion has a sensor distance of about 3m. Which means that in the middle of the night when you move on bed and if your bed is near the table it would turn on. If the sensor can be adjusted the distance of the motion it sense then it would be perfect.
