    Sunny, light and airy

Purchased the yellow version of this lamp. The yellow is a beautiful sunny colour. Creates the perfect warm glow for our Canadian winters, without too much of a colour cast. The transparent nature of this lamp is perfect for any space where you want to maintain a light and airy feel.

    Love the pop of color

I've used this in a child's room and a living room. Big impact for a small price. First shipment was poorly packed and arrived damaged but was quickly replaced. Easy way to add a pop of color to any room.

Modern, colorful, but simple & clean! Great product.

From esthetics point of view, the product is elegant and simple. It goes well with any environment – from “clean” white spaces, to colorful “busy” rooms. The shape is also basic, which can serve as an accent in “square” environment, or to compliment other curves in the space. Translucent material gives the product another dimension / depth.

It is light, and easy to install. It does not require any additional items (e.g. balasts, etc.).

    Great product !

    Beautiful lamp, MAJOR installation caveats

This lamp from Kartell is extremely cool but with several drawbacks. There is a reason most places don allow a return. The design is great, modern and whimsical. The plastic though is extremely fragile. Be forewarned, the shade scratches easily, I notice scratches as soon as I took off the "protective" film. But the biggest problem is the canopy and hardware that attaches to the ceiling, it doesn't, what a piece of junk. I am an experienced designer and have dealt with hardware and installations before and this was the worst process that I have ever encountered. What a major pain. It took me a whole day to put this thing up, and remember I am not a novice.

First of all, threading the electrical cable and the support cable through the nut took several hours and severe pulling to get it to slide. Because of this, it was impossible for me to get the canopy flush with the ceiling. I ended up using my old aluminum canopy from my previous lamp. Kartell's looks cool but it should go directly in the trash. If you must have this beauty, be prepared and find yourself different hardware. It will save you a lot of straining and damage to the lamp.

In four words, MOST DIFFICULT INSTALLATION EVER!

    Beautiful Lamp

    Always impressed with Kartell Products.

Beautiful design and not too expensive compared to other Designer Brands.

Plastic on FL/Y is very prone to scratches. Installation is a taxing one.

As with most European Light fixtures, the ceiling cap is much smaller than the exisiting hole. The ceiling cap should of been larger and possibly made of aluminum for the the price.

Happy with the lamp even though installation was somewhat of a challenge.

    A Modern Classic

Love the lamp, it´s big, simple and fun.

I do agree with the other reviewers about the cost...pretty expensive plastic. But I love it.

I am a bit concerned about the cleaning/scratching so I´m getting the Kartell plastic cleaner kit to be safe.

    Very bold - beautiful light

Very nice light fixture! The best part is that the bulb appears white even through the shade.

The down side is the cleaning. Use a very gentle, microfiber cloth to clean it. Also, I agree with the other review about how hard it is to string the wire through the top wire cover. But once it is done, you don't have to do it again!

    Overall a great lamp!

Cool Light - Scratches VERY Easily - Terrible Hookup

The Good: Looks awesome, very modern

The Bad: The plastic light shade scratches easier then any material I have ever seen -I cleaned it with an extra soft paper towel and it left a million micro-scratches all over it which are easily seen when the light is on.

Having installed nearly a dozen lights in our house I have to say the light hookup / cording is the worst ever. The actual cord is oval shaped and they expect you to fit it through a small circular hole in the canopy which is nearly impossible to do (took over an hour) -- after that you still have to route it through another bracket which attaches to the ceiling. Its awful considering this light is nearly $300 and $100 lights come with better wiring / bracket devices.

    awful.

nearly impossible to clean, easily scratched. a bit off kilter, in short an absolute horror. perhap ok as a disposable item at $100, but not worth $300.

    makes an impression

Didn't realize how huge this piece is but looks great. However, the price is a bit much for what it is - plastic!

    Very big

Even though I measured I wasn't prepared for the way the size felt in the space. Also, the plastic looks cheap. I didn't like this light and plan to try to return it.

    cool shape, with some caveats

Cool design. Really shows dust and fingerprints! Electrical wiring/hookup was surprisingly cheesy for Kartell quality. Keep in mind that this lamp casts quite a colorful light (i.e. the orange lamp casts a very orange glow..)

    Beautiful Piece

The lamp is HUGE. Which is perfect for our application over the stairwell. We got the orange color and it looks really good. Plastic material not really worth the $300 but the results are.

    Remodel Housings

In contrast to new construction housings, remodeling housings are appropriate when you have limited or no access to the space above a new fixture, such as in an apartment or a home without crawl spaces or attics above.

    New Construction Housings

In contrast to remodeling housings, new construction housings are bulkier and need to be installed between joist beams or onto hangar bars and thus you need full access to the space above the fixture. This style is best used if you are building in a new space, gutting a room, or have an attic above or pop out ceiling, etc.

    Non-IC Rated

Non-IC stands for: non insulation contact. Thus, non-IC-rated housings must be kept at least 3 inches away from any insulation.

    IC Rated

IC stands for: insulation contact. Thus, IC-rated housings can come in direct contact with thermal insulation.

    MR16 Halogen Bulb

MR 16 is a standard format for halogen multifaceted reflector light bulbs. MR16 lamps are regularly used in place of standard incandescent light bulbs as they harness and shoot light, resulting in less light loss than a traditional bulb. These are best used when you want focused light such as in a pendant over a countertop or an accent light on a painting.
