Richard Sapper, one of the world?s design luminaries, is most recognized for creating the famous Tizio lamp. His work embodies an extraordinary talent for transforming creative research and engineering into functional, elegant products. His latest design, Halley, is reflective of Sapper?s commitment
to taking his ideas of design, movement and maneuverability to an unparalleled level of execution and refinement.
Halley, the world?s first functional LED task lamp, is powered by the latest in LED technology. The lamps produce a warm white light with a smooth and continuous spread, brightest directly under the head, but without the narrow beam typical of a spot light. Mechanically and aesthetically, Halley is pure Sapper. The design incorporates counterbalances rather than springs or tension knobs to produce?throughout its range of motion?perfect balance. Halley?s fluidity of motion is achieved by a combination of six points of rotation, distributed along three joints with a full 360 degrees of rotation
at each joint. The result, a thin light head that floats and stays where you put it. The technical design keeps the LEDs cool and prolongs their life to approx 50,000 hours (40 hours/week at full intensity for 20 years). This longevity is achieved by a tiny quiet fan that pulls air over fins around the heat pipe
allowing the heat generated by the LED to dissipate.
Halley Desk has a height of 16" to 51", a reach of 16" to 48", and weighs 11 lbs. LED array (color temperature of 3200 deg K +/- 200 deg K) consumes 20W but produces light output equivalent to a 35W halogen bulb.
