Prior to his involvement the shades had been folded in pleats and in straight lines across the pleats. Poul Christiansen discovered that folding in mathematical curves gave the lamp shades beautiful and unique sculptural shapes. P.V. Jensen Klint was an architect and also a far-sighted and visionary gentleman. He had designed a stoneware oil lamp which needed an appropriate shade. What does the gifted and curious designer do? He invents a unique product – a lamp shade with folding across the pleats. P.V. Jensen was a Bachelor of Engineering, an architect and a painter. One must accentuate two achievements which still remain after his death. One is the Grundtvig Church in Copenhagen and the other is the cross pleated lamp shade which 40 years later went into production under the company name of LE KLINT. Tage Klint, son of P.V. Jensen Klint, was the creative entrepreneur who in 1943 chose to turn the family's artistically folded lamp shades into a regular business. He also added a crucial detail to the original shades; the unique “collar” at the top of the lamp, designed to fix the shade to the metal stand. Furthermore, he designed a number of lamps which have all been a part of LE KLINT's assortment. In 1953 his son, Jan Klint, took over the company. As a business man, he was years ahead of his time. In order to secure his employees, he created a fund which has since 1972 been in charge of the company LE KLINT. In addition, the fund supports former employees, designers and architects.
Indispensable Pleaters
The unique concept and the enterprising Klint family would not have been enough on their own, because without one particular resource, namely all the skilled pleaters at Le Klint, it would have been impossible to put the concept into actual production. Assiduous, precise and highly dextrous, they have turned the designers' proposals and models into beautiful shades over the years. The pleaters are still there today – because no machine can ever replace craftsmanship. More from Le Klint> Customer Reviews 5 out of 5 5 out of 5 Stunning lamp - exceeds expecationsI have it hanging over the table in my "transitional style" kitchen's atrium. It's the light I leave on throughout the evening - it is just so beautiful to look at. My electrician complained about installation, but it really didn't take him long. We were missing a small piece critical for hanging, but LeKlint sent it in a timely manner. By: S. M., Homeowner (Toronto)
5 out of 5 Fantastic light fixture!I bought this light for my dining room in my mid century modern home. Looks great, perfect size for my 48" round dining room table. By: Heather H., Homeowner (silver spring, md)
5 out of 5 Striking modern fixture lends character to your space.I installed this pendant as the central light fixture in a very small (9'x9') bedroom, and the effect is simply striking. The shape is modern but soft, and with a dimmer gives off a warm glow even using CFLs. As I had expected, the single bulb is not sufficient to light even a small space alone, so do not count on this being the sole light source for your space. The plastic does attract dust, but it can be easily cleaned with the right vacuum attachment. YLighting's price was the best anywhere, period, and I received the light a mere two days later with standard shipping â will definitely return for next light purchase. By: E. 5 out of 5 Fine craftsmanship, beautiful designThis chandelier is basically huge Origami - it's a single piece of folded shiny material that is joined on one easily missed seam. Two metal loops keep the folded material in place at the top and bottom, as well as clamp it on to a bulb (hidden inside the chandelier) on a white cord that hangs down from the ceiling. The ceiling mount is a white, smooth cone shape, about the size of a wide waffle cone. The ceiling mount is basic and seemingly designed not to distract from the centerpiece it's holding up. All told the lamp probably weighs 5 lbs. You could be put off by the fact that you are basically buying a sheet of (expertly shaped) plastic, which is then hung off a inexpensive looking cord and bulb. But don't be - it's beautifully crafted, architecturally captivating, and definitely a draw for the eye. It's a show-piece that would fit well in a modern home, without breaking the bank. Note, it doesn't come with installation instructions, which I found to be a pretty annoying oversight. The installation is relatively straightforward, however, and any electrician or moderately experienced/very handy home-owner will be comfortable with. By: Darrin T., Homeowner (Chicago)
5 out of 5 Better than I expected.Really pleased with the Le Klint Pendant 169. I purchased two of them for a large sunroom. They are very lightweight and were extremely easy to install (even though there were no directions). The quality of the product is better than I expected; I was a little concerned about how the folded plastic would look but they are very cool and contemporary. They really work for us and would highly recommend them to anyone looking to punch up a room with a contemporary fixture. By: John F., Homeowner (Sandy, UT, USA)
5 out of 5 beautiful!the light is beautiful, with a nice textural/architectural feel that adds a lot to the room. but, had to look online for directions (there were none in the box). By: Fran, Homeowner (Boston)
5 out of 5 Love it!This light added a much needed dimension to our son's bedroom. And he loves it too! There were no installation instructions included but found some on-line and it was easy. By: KS, Homeowner (Chicago)

5 out of 5 This is very cool for parents and kids!My sons love this light. It has a "Star Wars" feel, but with a happy glow. Feels architectural and fun at the same time. By: Allison B., Homeowner (mill valley ca)

Remodel Housings
In contrast to new construction housings, remodeling housings are appropriate when you have limited or no access to the space above a new fixture, such as in an apartment or a home without crawl spaces or attics above.
New Construction Housings
In contrast to remodeling housings, new construction housings are bulkier and need to be installed between joist beams or onto hangar bars and thus you need full access to the space above the fixture. This style is best used if you are building in a new space, gutting a room, or have an attic above or pop out ceiling, etc.
Non-IC Rated
Non-IC stands for: non insulation contact. Thus, non-IC-rated housings must be kept at least 3 inches away from any insulation.
IC Rated
IC stands for: insulation contact. Thus, IC-rated housings can come in direct contact with thermal insulation.
MR16 Halogen Bulb
MR 16 is a standard format for halogen multifaceted reflector light bulbs. MR16 lamps are regularly used in place of standard incandescent light bulbs as they harness and shoot light, resulting in less light loss than a traditional bulb. These are best used when you want focused light such as in a pendant over a countertop or an accent light on a painting.
