Poul Christiansen

Between 1969 and 1987 Poul Christiansen brought innovative and exciting dimensions to Le Klint's lamp shades. Prior to his involvement the shades had been folded in pleats and in straight lines across the pleats. Poul Christiansen discovered that folding in mathematical curves gave the lamp shades beautiful and unique sculptural shapes.

Modern Danish Lighting from Le Klint

P.V. Jensen Klint was an architect and also a far-sighted and visionary gentleman. He had designed a stoneware oil lamp which needed an appropriate shade. What does the gifted and curious designer do? He invents a unique product, a lamp shade with folding across the pleats.

P.V. Jensen was a Bachelor of Engineering, an architect and a painter. One must accentuate two achievements which still remain after his death. One is the Grundtvig Church in Copenhagen and the other is the cross pleated lamp shade which 40 years later went into production under the company name of LE KLINT.

Tage Klint, son of P.V. Jensen Klint, was the creative entrepreneur who in 1943 chose to turn the family's artistically folded lamp shades into a regular business. He also added a crucial detail to the original shades; the unique collar at the top of the lamp, designed to fix the shade to the metal stand. Furthermore, he designed a number of lamps which have all been a part of LE KLINT's assortment.

In 1953 his son, Jan Klint, took over the company. As a business man, he was years ahead of his time. In order to secure his employees, he created a fund which has since 1972 been in charge of the company LE KLINT. In addition, the fund supports former employees, designers and architects.

Indispensable Pleaters

The unique concept and the enterprising Klint family would not have been enough on their own, because without one particular resource, namely all the skilled pleaters at Le Klint, it would have been impossible to put the concept into actual production.

Assiduous, precise and highly dextrous, they have turned the designers' proposals and models into beautiful shades over the years. The pleaters are still there today, because no machine can ever replace craftsmanship.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! My husband and I ordered the Le Klint pendant for the nursery. It was between the Le Klint and the George Nelson saucer lamp and we are so pleased with the Le Klint! We added a dimmer to the light and it looks amazing! It sets off a beautiful soft glow that I think our baby will love. The directions were less than helpful with regard to how to install the light, but nothing we couldn't figure out on our own. Ylighting shipped the light immediately, which was fantastic because I feel as though everything I've ordered for the nursery takes 6-12 weeks. We will definitely order from ylighting again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Le Klint Pendant 172 is an iconic shape that evokes nature I bought a pair of these pendants knowing full well that they probably wouldn't match the decor of my kitchen, but I have been lusting after them for a long time. When I got them, I was just so happy to see them and hold them. But, indeed, they just didn't jive with the French country kitchen installed by the previous owners of my house. If I could, I'd rip out my kitchen just to have Le Klint grace my island. With great sadness, I shipped them back to YLighting, not even regretting the shipping and re-shipping fees. I had beheld Le Klint, and was that much happier for it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful but hard to keep clean I admired this lamp for years when I lived in Denmark, and so I was very glad to purchase it for use over my dining table, where it sheds a rather beautiful light. It is, however, difficult to clean. Dust has to be carefully brushed off each curve using a paintbrush, and the dust (and the occasional dead fly) that collects on the interior is nearly impossible to remove wel, and shows up when the lamp is lit. Plus, should anyone attempt this cleaning without proper delicacy and care, the plastic coated paper dings very easily and doesn't come back to perfect shape.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW I bought this and had to wait until road construction was over (didn't want to deal with all the dirt and dust on the all the lovely crevices). the electrician was really amused by the instructions, and thought I was nutz buying a plastic lamp. Then I turned it on. It's like a piece of sculpture hanging from the ceiling. He was amazed--he took down the name (and ylighting's email) cause he was so surprised. Its an organic sculptural piece and looks perfect over my dining room table. Everyone who sees it is in awe of the piece. I love the artichoke and Helios pendants, but a little out of my price range, so it was between a Nelson and Le klint, so glad I bought Le klint 172--- the service was wonderful--directions were lousy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very cool fixture Although the installation was a bit awkward, once we figured it out, the fixture was easy. It is a cool fixture, really works with both modern and ecletic interiors. It also gives off much more light that we thought which was perfect for this installation. Two compliants: 1. there was no installation sheet at all! 2. the fixture is not grounded! This is a serious issue as we had to ground a wire ourselves but there are likely many people who do not (given that there are no installation instructions) and that would be a a code violation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is a gorgeous light and a work of art; it is the focal point of my bedroom. I was impressed with the careful and thorough packaging the light came in. It arrived quickly within about three days. My brother was able to install it without any difficulty. I have a dimmer with remote for it; I love being able to adjust the lighting depending on whether I am writing or reading or if I want alittle soft light prior to going to sleep. I love the look of this particular light; it is a modern, clean piece which is art to me. The price was a bargain! No shipping costs and tax were also a bonus. Thank you! -Christine

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful price and service for this great pendant light I purchased three of these pendants to cluster over my dining table. They arrived quickly, well-packaged, and in excellent condition. YLighting's customer service replied promptly when I had an installation question. Note: the pendants can only hang straight down from the junction box with the included hardware -- no swag hardware is included. YLighting had the best price by far on the web... The lights are stunning and provide a wonderful glow to our eating area. Overall, I am very pleased with the product and with YLighting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beauty personified! I hung this lamp in my library/office as a central ceiling fixture. I was a little worried that it would not be suitable for this location, since most illustrations picture the light hanging much lower and used in more defined spaces. But I needn't have worried. I hung it about 14in. below our 9'5" ceiling and it looks stunning! And it looks simply beautiful as a foil for my books, maps, paintings, and Bertoia chairs. Even my husband is enchanted. P.S. The electrician hooked it up in 2 minutes--no issues.
