Design by Cecilie Manz, 2011. Creating a simple, soft design for small and large pendants was the main idea behind the Caravaggio series. The curves passed through a number of shapes during the design process, but the final version captures a feminine form. The suspension technology is masculine in construction, creating the right counterbalance to the shade's feminine lines. The shade is made of drawn steel and coated with smooth, high-gloss paint. The suspension assembly consists of curved steel rods and two pieces of turned brass with a matte chrome plating. The depth of the shade prevents glare, no matter how high the pendant is hung. As the child of parents occupied with art and design, designing always formed a natural part of her life. She chose design as her living when she began studying at the Danish School of Design in 1992. She furthered her great interest for function and conceptualization as an exchange student to Helsinki where she attended the Finnish University of Art and Design. In 1998, a year after she graduated from the Danish School of Design she started her own studio, Manz Lab. In addition to her work with industrial products, her experimental prototypes and more sculptural one-offs make up an important part of her work and approach.
