Works well but slightly smaller in size than the discontinued model

This transformer works well but it's slightly smaller in size than the discontinued model which came in a similar color. Ylighting is a good source for lighting.

On a separate note, I think the manufacturer should have recalled the discontinued model since all 3 of the ones I originally bought broke within a few years of moderate use.

    4th Transformer in 6 years

We really like the monorail kit we bought but replacing the transformers every 1 1/2 years is to expensive.

Easy to install, works as advertised.

My last transformer stopped working after four years of use. I'm hoping for longer useful life out of this one.

    I love this product...

I have a very traditional home and I was looking for a product that would allow for a transiton from dated to contemporay. The finish and design of this product did so

just beautifully. And the customer service of Ylighting was exceptional!

    This transformer is performing satisfactorily.

I purchased this transformer as a replacement for the original which came with the monorail track lighting set. The original transformer worked for about a year and a half before it burned out. Possible cause was we were using a standard dimmer switch which was not compatible for this low voltage system. I note the new transformer comes with a warning that if used with a dimmer switch, only low voltage type dimmers are to be used. I have installed a new low voltage dimmer, and hopefully, this will add longevity to the new transformer.

Replacement transformer, hoping for more capacity

I purchased one of the WAC packages, which came with a 150 transformer, and 5 20w fixtures. It gave out after 4 years, and I replaced it with the 250. I was hoping I could put more wattage on the same track, but the transformer got really, really hot, and I backed down to 100w total. It seems to be fine, but I wish I had more light.

Not hard to install. No buzzing or startup delay. Hope it lasts a long time.

    So far so good

I originally purchased a WAC 12V 250W electronic transformer as part of a set of five lights, rail and transformer. When working, they work great. My problem was that the transformer kept interacting with the switches in some way I do not understand (various types of cheap and more expensive Levitons) to cause them to fail to conduct when "ON". After replacing the switch about 5 times I decided to get a new transformer. The new transformer is not exactly the same as the old. The transformer circuitry is potted in the lower half of the assembly instead of being bolted to the ceiling mounting plate. The new transformer has a smaller diameter than the original. As a result you have to replace the entire transformer fixture. Fortunately the new one and the old one mount to the rail at the same distance from the ceiling so you don't have to adjust the rail. Note: this is not the case with the "magnetic" transformer they offer. Best to remove all fixtures from the rail while replacing.

Need to buy a 3rd transformer or switch brands...

Happy to read that we are not crazy. We thought the something was wrong with the wiring. It is unbelievable to pay this kind of money and have the transformer last only about two years each. Our second transformer stopped working and we need to replace it for the 3rd time in 5 years.

My fingers are crossed that this transformer doesn't burnout like the first transformer.

This is the second transformer I have purchased as the transformer this is replacing burned out. If I didn't already have money tied up in the rails and fixtures I would not have purchased this as a replacement. I have not had the best luck with WAC transformers. Their fixtures have worked as intended but the transformers are a whole different animal. As far as I am concerned a product like this should not burnout after a year. If a year is the expected life of WACs transformers then I would have ponied up the cash for some truly nice monorail lighting from Bruck that is not only bulletproof but also of an infinitely higher quality. Read the other reviews of this transformer and you will notice that other people have had issues with it as well. WAC should really do better quality control on their products.

i was ok until it started acting up,

transformer shuts off no pattern to it.then starts again cannot understand why.using 20w x 5 so should be plenty of capacity left?

i would like to add 2 more fixtures if possible with a larger transformer but presume only 250w is available

wonder why company does not recall this or support us home owners with a problem like it appears with many units malfunctioning????

    Seems improved

I purchased this transformer as a replacement. The previous one lasted about 3 years, then started acting funny - randomly turning off, not turning on, etc. This one seems different as there is a slight delay when turning the switch.

    it works for now

this is the third transformer in a couple of years for this

WAC lighting product. My fingers are crossed that i don't have to order another one.

Good product over all - has some drawbacks.

I like most of the other reviewers have the same problem. The 250 watt transformer that came with my kit only lasted less than 2 years. The new transformer looks like a better design. hopefully it will last much longer than 2 years.

Didn't like that we had to replace it already.

We really like the lighting system we've had installed for the last 3 years. Unfortunately, this is the second transformer we've had to purchase. We hope this one lasts longer!

Upgraded 12v 250w Electronic Surface Mounted Transformer

I have two monorail systems in my kitchen. One uses the 250 W surfaced mounted transformer the other uses 150 Watt. After 3 years the 250 Watt transformer started to randomly shut off then quit to work. I bought a new replacement 250 Watt transformer. This one is epoxy potted so hopefully it will last longer.

Yesterday the 150 Watt started to shut down... I now need to replace the 150 watt also.

I hope that the new transformers being epoxy potted will have longer life.

    Remodel Housings

In contrast to new construction housings, remodeling housings are appropriate when you have limited or no access to the space above a new fixture, such as in an apartment or a home without crawl spaces or attics above.

    New Construction Housings

In contrast to remodeling housings, new construction housings are bulkier and need to be installed between joist beams or onto hangar bars and thus you need full access to the space above the fixture. This style is best used if you are building in a new space, gutting a room, or have an attic above or pop out ceiling, etc.

    Non-IC Rated

Non-IC stands for: non insulation contact. Thus, non-IC-rated housings must be kept at least 3 inches away from any insulation.

    IC Rated

IC stands for: insulation contact. Thus, IC-rated housings can come in direct contact with thermal insulation.

    MR16 Halogen Bulb

MR 16 is a standard format for halogen multifaceted reflector light bulbs. MR16 lamps are regularly used in place of standard incandescent light bulbs as they harness and shoot light, resulting in less light loss than a traditional bulb. These are best used when you want focused light such as in a pendant over a countertop or an accent light on a painting.
