PH 4/3 is a member of the PH 3-shade family originally conceived in the winter of 1925-26 for a large exhibition hall in Copenhagen, Denmark called "Forum" and is based on the principle of a reflecting multi-shade system, creating a harmonious and glare-free illumination. The shades are drawn over a logarithmic spiral, with the center of the light source placed in the spiral's focal point. The PH 4/3 Pendant provides a primarily downward illumination.

The PH 4/3 Pendant Light features white painted spun aluminum shades. Ships with a white canopy and 12 feet of white PVC power cord.

Poul Henningsen

Poul Henningsen was born in Copenhagen to the famous Danish actress Agnes Henningsen. He never graduated as an architect, but studied at The Technical School at Frederiksberg, Denmark from 1911-14, and then at Technical College in Copenhagen from 1914-17.

He started practicing traditional functionalistic architecture, but over the years his professional interests changed to focus mainly on lighting. He also expanded his field of occupation into areas of writing, becoming a journalist and an author. For a short period at the beginning of WWII, he was the head architect of the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen. But like many other creative people, he was forced to flee Denmark during the German occupation but soon became a vital part of the Danish colony of artists living in Sweden.

His lifelong collaboration with Louis Poulsen Lighting began in 1925 and lasted until his death. To this day, Louis Poulsen Lighting still benefits from his genius. Poul Henningsen was also the first editor of the company magazine "NYT". The CEO of Louis Poulsen at the time, Sophus Kaastrup-Olsen, gave the magazine to PH as a gift because he had been terminated from the Danish newspaper he worked for (his opinions were too radical).

Poul Henningsen's pioneering work concerning the relations between light structures, shadows, glare, and color reproduction¬ócompared to man's need for light remains the foundation of the lighting theories still practiced by Louis Poulsen Lighting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great design, creates a look and pulls the room together. Love the way this light looks in our mid-century kitchen, The crushed chrome works very well against our brushed nickel pulls and hardware. What's better than the way it looks is how it functions. The light is remarkably diffuse and even, you can stand under it and never feel like you are in a spotlight, yet the light is very adequate to a 10 X 10 areas (we are adding a second one because we love it and the space does need at least 2 different sources). Let's face it, lighting is tough, and there are millions of bad lighting choices out there, that's why we love the PH.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, elegant, and illuminates our round dining table perfectly. Love this light. Beautifully proportioned using quality materials. Its multi-layered reflective surfaces cast a wonderful pool of golden light on our round dining table while keeping the light bulb itself completely hidden. The light quality is excellent just using the incandescent bulb I've installed at the moment until the 100 watt LED bulb I ordered arrives. Carefully packed by manufacturer, who takes well-deserved pride in their product. My husband agreed that it really "completes the room." Even better than we'd hoped.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a beautiful lighting fixture! This lighting fixture is perfect! It is mid-century at its best. The design is simple, yet profound. The fixture is very light in weight, and it seems to float in the air making a beautiful statement without overpowering. The design allows light to filter out of the fixture without the bulb being seen from any angle - comfortable, beautiful lighting!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely pendant for our new kitchen We just love this light. It is simple, yet beautiful. It gives off a lovely light. It was not hard to install and came with a long cord that could be adjusted to any length. We have ours on a dimmer to adjust for different moods and times of day. I looked at hundreds of light fixtures before finding this one that suits our taste perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Six stars...perfect light and classic design! The Poulsen PH4/3 fixture is over our Aalto kitchen table and the PH5 is over our dining room table. Both provide the perfect amount of light and make a modern classic design statement. In fact, we have used both in all the homes we have owned and when they were sold the new owners insisted that they were part of the sale.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! It's exactly like the picture. Solid. Packaged well. Am using it in my updated kitchen over an island. Only problem, at first they sent me the wrong light. But, customer service was easy to work with and I recieved the correct light without a problem.

Dose it works with a dimmer?

Asked by: zawza
Hi there, yes this pendant can certainly function with a wall dimmer because it operates off of a regular 100W incandescent bulb. Please let us know if you have any follow up questions regarding this or any other fixture! Parin YLighting Customer Service
