Design by Arne Jacobsen, 1956.
By Louis Poulsen.
The AJ Eklipta Wall Light was originally designed for the Rødovre Town Hall in Denmark to illuminate indoor staircases and exterior walls. As a true functionalist master, Arne Jacobsen created the AJ Eklipta in a time period when Danish design had an exceptional quality to it. Today, this fixture is still used in various architectural environments worldwide.
The AJ Eklipta Wall Light emits a soft, comfortable light. The glass is designed to provide a uniformly lit surface. The three-layer hand-blown opal glass shade has a transparent edge, providing a decorative halo of light around the fixture. The AJ Eklipta Wall Light is composed of a spun aluminum structure with a hand-blown white opal glass diffuser. Can be mounted directly over a recessed 4" octagonal junction box.

Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) was trained as a bricklayer and graduated from The Technical Society's school in 1924 and Copenhagen Art Academy 1927. In 1928 he received the Academy's gold medal, but prior to this, when only 23, he was awarded a silver medal at the 1925 Paris World Exhibition — the first of numerous honours that became a natural accompaniment to his artistic activities, his untiring search and his brilliant conceptions, made manifest by many successes in competitions at home and abroad.See other lights/products from Arne Jacobsen
Louis Poulsen's approach to architectural development began with its collaboration with famous and well respected lighting designers, like Poul Henningsen. Together they created a lighting and product philosophy encompassed by the words "function", "comfort" and "ambience". This philosophy continues to influence simple and functional product design, which focuses on well-being and the perception of artificial light, which leads to the creation of unique lighting environments. Louis Poulsen's approach to lighting lies in a very strict and uncompromising product philosophy grounded in simplicity. All elements must serve a light-related purpose. The result is a product line that displays simple and discreet designs ideally suited to all types of architecture across cultural styles.
