Ron Rezek

Ron Rezek designed the world's first contemporary-styled ceiling fan, the Stratos, in 1986. But his list of accomplishments in the design world is long and varied, from lifeguard equipment to contemporary lighting. In 1997, Ron started The Modern Fan Co. in Ashland, Oregon, which produces and sells only contemporary ceiling fans.

His ceiling fans have been widely used in hotels, restaurants, retail and institutional applications, and all types of residential projects.

Ron Rezek's Philosophy:
"I don't think contemporary means a stark white room. I think it means a tasteful alignment of important elements. There are some designers who copy the Modernists who have come before. But I think 'contemporary' is the pursuit of the new." "People assume that all contemporary fixtures are more functional than traditional ones. That is because contemporary fixtures are easier to clean and they seem to be more utilitarian based on their appearance. And because of their simplicity and lack of ornamentation, they also have an alliance with the industrial look. But all of this doesn't necessarily translate into function. The Modern Fan Co.'s fans are designed to be functional and energy efficient. This is part of being contemporary and pushing the edge. Energy efficiency is the wave of the future."

Modern Fan Company

Modern Fan Company. Consciously cool.

Modern Fan represents a new age in ceiling fans — the marrying of efficient function with contemporary design. Designed by Ron Rezek, the Modern Fan Company's models celebrate the modern idiom through mechanical simplification, geometric forms and contemporary finishes. The unique ceiling fan styles of Modern Fan represent a new age in ceiling fans — the marrying of efficient function with contemporary design (you won't find any wicker or flowery fans here!).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I just love my Altus ceiling fan which is sophisticated, yet understated in appearance and performs efficiently and quietly---should have purchased months ago! My handyman who also does electrical installed my fan quickly and without confronting any issues. Since I had no electrical already installed in the ceiling location, he had to run wires from my tiny, hard to access attic. He did all that with the fan operating by remote solely within one and one-half hours. Now I have instant gratifying air movement for those warm, muggy days that we have been experiencing in La Jolla. The air movement is fantastic and the fan's styling complements my decor in my contemporary remodeled bungalow. I highly recommend this fan and appreciated the professional, courteous consulting of YLighting sales persons. Thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! The Altus ceiling fan is one of the Modern Fan Company's models. It is light, slender, whisper quiet and highly effective with minimal vibration. It was well packed with complete instructions, and the remote even comes with a battery. I chose ground shipping. This is a little slow from west coast to east coast, but the rate was pretty good. The fan is pretty easy to install, but there is a specific sequence that you have to follow. You will need a phillips screwdriver and a wire cutter/stripper, presuming that the circuit and fan box are already present. I liked it well enough that I ordered another one for another room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fan, easy install. Excellent fan, clear install instructions, and well packed. Having installed several brands of fan in past years, Modern Fan Co takes the cake for clear easy to follow instructions. The design makes hanging and making electrical connections a breeze. I ordered the atlus with cfl light and found it to be a nice warm and bright light which fills the bedroom it's installed in. I plan on ordering more atlas fans at some point for my living room. Also, for what it's worth, the Altus looks far far better in person versus online pictures (I had been leaning towards the ball but I'm glad I followed my instincts with the Altus).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful design We love the design of this fan, clean classic lines that don't overwhelm the room. Our electrician thought it was well built and easy to install. The maple blades are not quite as light-colored as I'd hoped, but they seem solid. We haven't yet gotten the balancing right, so it wobbles a lot on high speed, and doesn't push a huge amount of air on lower speeds. The single light is pleasant, though definitely supplementary rather than primary lighting for a room.I'd love to see the manufacturer offer a light kit that can put out more light and a pull chain control option. That, plus making sure we can get the fan balanced, would have us buying several more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gorgeous! I have a very high and very sloped ceiling in my bedroom. With the largest extension the fan hangs down at a nice distance from the ceiling but without being intrusive in the room. I look forward to using it in the summer as even on the medium setting, the three blades create quite the breeze. On high, I might not want loose papers in the room! The only drawback is there is not a button on the remote to change the direction of the way the blades blow. In winter, I would like the ceiling to push the air up, forcing the warm air to lower. If there is a switch on the fan (like my previous one) I can't see it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from We needed a fan with light in an entry hall for our log home. The previous owners had installed a cheap chandelier with uplight which only lit up the ceiling and did nothing to illuminate the entry. We are in Kentucky and it is hot much of the time. After looking for over one month, we decided on this product and couldn't be happier with it. With a 60" extension rod, it hangs low enough to cool the entry AND light it up tastefully. It doesn't overwhelm. It is elegant in its simplicity and very functional and easy to install. No wobbling. A great choice. Has a rustic appeal that works wonderfully with exposed wood floor joists, wood beams, and log walls. We highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sleek design We ordered two Altus fans from YLighting. An Altus Hugger for a bedroom, and the regular Altus to be installed in the livingroom, which has a two story ceiling. Since it hasn't been installed, we cannot comment on the operation of the Altus, but if it works like the Altus Hugger, it will be quiet and efficient. We did a lot of on-line research before ordering, searching not only for a good looking, contemporary, aluminum fan, but also a fan that with high ratings, and that is affordable. YLighting had a great price, compared say to other online retailers, and helpful customer service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from made me feel "cool" The Altus Fan is gorgeous. I had 2 installed yesterday and the electrician was so impressed he asked me the cost, so he liked it, both from ease of installation and looks. It has a good range of speeds as I put one in a bedroom and one in a 12'6" ceiling (with their standard downrod) in a large great room. Both get the right amount of air. One note--I had read reviews that it seemed weird to have the highest speed the first choice next to the off button. My installer says that is easiest on the motor--to go right to High Speed, then decrease the motor down, rather than starting low and making it ratchet up. Easy to do anyway, really, not a problem . And it's just so cool looking, it improves the look of the whole room.
