Yes, the design of the Altus is quite sleek. But even more than that, the fan appears to have been lovingly manufactured and then packaged for shipping: everything aligned and finished properly, no missing screws (in fact one extra of each), etc. Although the box included some weights to adjust for wobble, I didn't need them. And the fan runs so quietly!

Used the 44" version over a bed with a 10' ceiling. Hugs the ceiling well and looks great in a contemporary setting. I purchased two units for by sons' bedrooms. You should probably have an electrician install them. I had to call ylighting to have the remote control unit replaced on one of them, but they replaced it no questions asked. If you are unsure of ordering lighting over the web, don't worry, their ylighting customer support is knowledgeable, very helpful, and responsive. Also make sure you installer puts it in correctly so that it doesn't wobble. The product looks great, we put them in a loft bedroom that is about 10 feet by 10 feet and has an 8 foot ceiling and it's a perfect fit.

The fan has an attractive design. Is comparatively light weight and works wonderfully. Given that it is whisper quiet, my wife and I intend to replace the one in the bedroom. One caveat, and the reason for not giving it 5 stars; the screw holes that mount the fan to the ceiling mount are very, very tight relative to the screw so they must be screwed in dead straight and with quite a bit of force. However, the screw holes are so close to the celing it is impossible to accomplish this task. I would recomended screwing a screw into each hole PRIOR to putting the mount on the ceiling. This will make it much easier when it must be done to mount the fan. You could also use an angled screw driver but I did not find this to be very efficient. Other than that, installation is a snap.

it is hard to buy items sight-unseen but this one was a great surprise. it is very sleek and trim and made a huge improvement in our room (over the last fan). the power is great too so it is form and function! just a note....there is a little switch to change the direction of the blade and we didn't realize that it shows until after we hung it. it would be better to take note of the it beforehand and make sure it is less visible. not a big deal though.

We had this fan installed in a 15 x 12 bedroom with 8 foot ceilings. Because of the relatively low ceiling height, we were looking for a "hugger" fan, but one with enough clearance between the ceiling and the blades (at least 8 inches) to be effective at cooling the room. This one fit the bill. We ordered it with the 52 inch blades, although with some trepidation that the fan would overwhelm the room. It does not. We love the sleek, clean lines of the fan. It is quiet and efficient. The only caution would be that we had it installed by an electrician, and he had some difficulty with the installation, so would suggest unless the purchaser is very handy, to use an electrician for the installation. Also, there is a "rope" of foam inside the fan body that has to be removed for the fan to operate. This isn't mentioned in the installation instructions, and isn't readily apparent during installation.

I got the fan without the light for my living room (8 ft ceiling).

The wooden blades that are painted silver, match well with the brushed aluminum body.

It took me 20 minutes to install from start to finish.

I kept the 3-way light switch I had. It has a little dimmer on it and it works fine with the fan.

It is smooth and balanced.

It is pretty quiet on high speed. Just a notch down in speed from there and the sound is cut in half, and at slow speed, there is barely a whisper. These results were from a dead quiet room.

It also has a reverse switch located high on the side of the body.

It's really difficult to find a simple yet modern ceiling fan. Most home improvement store ceiling fans are frumpy. Modern Ceiling Fan's are anything but frumpy. I purchased the Altus Hugger (42" blades) and fan switch (no light) for a small living room in a vacation rental unit with low ceilings. The modern styling and power works great for the space. I hired an electrician to install and it took about an hour (would've been quicker if he had read the instructions first). Based on what he did, I think I can probably handle the installation on my own next time. The only adaptation needed was that my wall switch was part of a 3-switch panel. Overall, what I like best is the design and variable speed control. My only wish is that it "motor hum" was a bit quieter on the lowest setting.

I purchased two Altus Hugger ceiling fans one for my living room and one for my bedroom. Gorgeous aluminum body which adds more style to a room with the flared housing that hugs the ceiling. I did experience one flaw in the product. The screws which hold the fan blade cover onto the motor are so tight I stripped all of them the first time around. My suggestion is to spray a small amount of WD40 onto each screw then s-l-o-w-l-y unscrew each screw with a low torque setting drill or manually. Remember to take out the foam roll between the housing of the fan and the motor, this will allow the fan rotate...otherwise you will need to remove the fan blade cover and then reattach the cover.

This fan works well in our small bedroom. We have an old house with low ceilings upstairs and it fits well in the space. It is very quiet and suitable for use at night while sleeping. Regarding installation: we had planned to install it ourselves, but after receiving it we found that it is very heavy due to the large (high quality) motor, so we chose to hire an electrician to install it. It is heavy enough that we were afraid it might pull the existing junction box loose from the ceiling, so we had a professional install a new junction box attached to the bottom of a joist. The electrician reported that the fan is unusually difficult to assemble, but it certainly works well once installed.

I purchased this fan with the 36" blades for a 11'x12' room, and despite the length of the blades, this fan puts out quite a bit of power, while being quiet in operation. Also, the look is pleasantly contemporary.

This fan is contemporary enough for our modern traditional home and is very quiet - even on the highest setting. We bought the white one for our den and it is practially invisible, which is what we wanted. I will most likely order this same fan for our bedrooms. The only thing that may bother some people is the tiny switch that changes the direction of which way the fan blows. It doesn't bother me but it's getting to my husband. We may reinstall it so that the buttom faces another direction. Other than that, the fan is perfect and we love it!
