Design by Ron Rezek.
By The Modern Fan Company.

The Ball fan represents a return to The Modern Fan Company's roots, derived from a minimalist approach to ceiling fan design. A perfect sphere provides visual simplicity while housing all the components required for exceeding the EPA's Energy Star guidelines for air movement efficiency (rating applies to fan only).

The Ball is made of die-cast aluminum and offered in either a gloss white or a hand brushed aluminum finish. The blades are a plywood laminate with a gloss white coating or metallic aluminum paint to match the brushed finish. The optional light kit provides ambient lighting in your choice of halogen or compact fluorescent lamping.

The motor is a high power silicon steel design with 16 poles. These motors are designed for long life and silent running, and are controlled by dual capacitors. The fan speed and the light can be operated by one of several control options. Note: Any control ordered with a fan that has been configured with an energy-saving CFL will be supplied in a non-dimming version.

Includes 3", 6" and 16" downrods for 11", 14" or 24" overall height. Optional downrods are available for alternate heights. The Ball fan can accommodate a sloped ceiling up to 33°. For slopes over 33° but under 45°, use the sloped ceiling adaptor (sold separately).

  • Airflow measured in cubic feet per minute at high speed (CFM) = 5986.55
  • Watts at high speed = 72.4
  • Airflow efficiency at high speed (CFM/Watts) = 82.69

Optional control features:

  • 001 - Fan Speed Control: A basic fan control used to operate a fan only, providing four speeds.
  • 002 - Three Wire Fan Speed and Light Control: Intended for operation of a fan with light. Requires two circuits (three wires). Provides four speeds and full range dimming (except fluorescent lights, use 002ND non-dimming for fluorescent lighting). Any ceiling fan using a fluorescent lamp may not be dimmed or operated with a dimming control.
  • 003 - Handheld Remote Control: Designed for independent operation of a fan and light using only one circuit (two wires). Provides three speeds and full range dimming (for halogen or incandescent lamps) or "on/off" switching (for fluorescent lamps) and comes with a wall hanging bracket.
  • 004 - Two Wire Fan Speed and Light Control: Designed for independent operation of fan and light using only one circuit (two wires). Provides three speeds and full range dimming (for halogen or incandescent lamps) or "on/off" switching (for fluorescent lamps) and wires into wall box.
  • 005 - Wall Control with Remote Handset: A combination control package including the 004 Fan and Light Control and 003 Handheld Remote Control handset. Provides three speeds and full range dimming (for halogen or incandescent lamps) or "on/off" switching (for fluorescent lamps) from wall control and compatible remote handset.

Ron Rezek

Ron Rezek designed the world's first contemporary-styled ceiling fan, the Stratos, in 1986. But his list of accomplishments in the design world is long and varied, from lifeguard equipment to contemporary lighting. In 1997, Ron started The Modern Fan Co. in Ashland, Oregon, which produces and sells only contemporary ceiling fans.

His ceiling fans have been widely used in hotels, restaurants, retail and institutional applications, and all types of residential projects.

Ron Rezek's Philosophy:
"I don't think contemporary means a stark white room. I think it means a tasteful alignment of important elements. There are some designers who copy the Modernists who have come before. But I think 'contemporary' is the pursuit of the new." "People assume that all contemporary fixtures are more functional than traditional ones. That is because contemporary fixtures are easier to clean and they seem to be more utilitarian based on their appearance. And because of their simplicity and lack of ornamentation, they also have an alliance with the industrial look. But all of this doesn't necessarily translate into function. The Modern Fan Co.'s fans are designed to be functional and energy efficient. This is part of being contemporary and pushing the edge. Energy efficiency is the wave of the future."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Y not Good source of modern lighting as well as a equally good source in Ybath

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this fan This is the second one I've bought from Y Lighting. I had to leave the first one behind in a house I sold and now in a condo, it's perfect. I hired an installer and it was simple to hang and add the wall controls. It replaced a light and it was thoughtful of the company to make the controls fit in the same slot as the light switch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what we needed Good features, quick assembly and installation (for my electrician anyway) and it goes from gently circulating air to some amazing power should that be necessary!

In looking at the remote and wall options for operating the fan I don't see a remote option for fan only.  If I wanted this fan without the light does this mean I'd be restricted to the wall switch or is there a suitable remote?

Asked by: QuintessentiAl
If you are interested in the fan only without the light kit option, the remote listed on the product page will work. The remote handles fan and light functions. If you have additional questions, we are happy to help! Brian, YLighting Customer Support 866-842-6209

Can you use this fan outdoor in a covered patio?

Asked by: coco2015
Thanks for the question, Coco. Yes, you can! The Ball Ceiling Fan is 'damp rated' which means it can be used outdoors, provided it is not exposed to rain or direct contact with water. A covered patio should work perfectly. Please let us know if you have any further questions or need assistance with your product choices. YLighting Customer Support 866-842-6209

What is the difference between the halogen light and the CFL light?  Are the bulbs in either easily changed?  Which would be brighter?

Asked by: JBranson
Hey there! The main difference between halogen and CFL is that the halogen is a warmer color temperature than the CFL (compact fluorescent lamp). Also, the Halogen is dimmable where the CFL is not. Typically the CFL has a screw in base where Halogen is usually a bi-pin base, but can also be found as traditional medium screw in base. Neither base type is easier or harder to replace, it really is just based on the individual fixture design. Should you require some additional clarification beyond this and would like to speak to a Product Specialist directly, feel free to give us a call anytime at 866.842.6209 and we can assist you.
