Ron Rezek

Ron Rezek designed the world's first contemporary-styled ceiling fan, the Stratos, in 1986. But his list of accomplishments in the design world is long and varied, from lifeguard equipment to contemporary lighting. In 1997, Ron started The Modern Fan Co. in Ashland, Oregon, which produces and sells only contemporary ceiling fans.

His ceiling fans have been widely used in hotels, restaurants, retail and institutional applications, and all types of residential projects.

Ron Rezek's Philosophy:
"I don't think contemporary means a stark white room. I think it means a tasteful alignment of important elements. There are some designers who copy the Modernists who have come before. But I think 'contemporary' is the pursuit of the new." "People assume that all contemporary fixtures are more functional than traditional ones. That is because contemporary fixtures are easier to clean and they seem to be more utilitarian based on their appearance. And because of their simplicity and lack of ornamentation, they also have an alliance with the industrial look. But all of this doesn't necessarily translate into function. The Modern Fan Co.'s fans are designed to be functional and energy efficient. This is part of being contemporary and pushing the edge. Energy efficiency is the wave of the future."

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Looks great but but lacks in some quality You can't argue, this is a great looking fan. I purchased the one with the halogen bulb and it is brighter than I thought it would be. But upon installing it, the cap which covers the wires at the ceiling had a scratch on it. We hung it up anyway but I expected a $400 plus fan do be free of manufacturing defects. When we first turned it on, it made a strange scratching sound. We discovered a piece of manufacturing debris inside the fan to be causing it. Again, more time spent trying to fix a quality issue. Once it was removed it was totally quiet. Overall, I am happy with the fan but I have to say the manufacturing quality is not what I would expect. There were some parts that didn't quite "match up." I would give this fan 5 stars for looks alone but have to reduce it to 3 based on the quality issues.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Expensive and NOISEY. I've probably put up a dozen ceiling fans over the years. From name brands to ones you get at the big-box hardware stores. This is by far the most expensive fan I've ever purchased, particularly after you add the lighting components. And yet it is by far the noisiest fan I've ever owned. I have triple checked it and short of completely disassembling it down to the bare motor, there is no way I can see to fix it. And I'm not sure even that would do it. I've had it about a month and use it every day. I hoped it would work itself out. But as I sit in my quiet office writing this, it's going "zing zing zing zing". Terrible. I got 2-wire wall and hand-held remote. I'm OK with the price of those. Buty I also purchased the halogen light add-on. Way over-priced for what you get. One other thing, the cowling that fits over the ceiling hanger doesn't fit very well. In fact it fits so poorly that I thought I must have made a mistake installing it. Not that I'm able to determine. And a small quibble, The screws that hold it in place are visible. Not a big deal but the cheap fan this replaced had a collar that concealed its screws. The only positives is that it is attractive and the blades are real bamboo. They are beautiful. Maybe they all aren't all so noisey but one I received is terrible.

Can this be flush mounted? IF not what is the minimum hang length?

Asked by: Bobby J
Hi there. So this fan comes equipped with both a 5" and a 16" down rod, meaning that the closest you could get this unit to the ceiling would be by using the 5" option. While this would allow the unit to remain very close to the ceiling, it could not be entirely flush. There needs to be a bit of room above the blades to allow for proper air circulation. If you wanted to ditch the down rod idea altogether, go for a "hugger" fan instead. This style of fan does not have a down rod, so it can stay flush with the ceiling. Can you tell me how to reverse the flow for summer cooling? Also can you confirm which direction the blades should turn for cooling (when standing underneath the fan? Thanks,

Asked by: KennaT
Hi there, your fan is reversible for summer and winter operation. The reverse switch is located on the top of the fan body. When reading the REVERSE label, the LEFT position is for summer and the RIGHT position is for winter. Also, you can access the installation instructions with step by step diagrams by heading to the manufacturer Modern Fan's website and searching for the "Flow" fan. We plan to install two (2) fans in our greatroom - will one (1) hand remote control both fans?

Asked by: Marie931
Hi there. Yep these two fans will be able to be operated via one remote because both will be installed along the same circuit. Your electrician shouldn't have any problems with this, especially because Modern Fan includes a lot of helpful instruction and installation paperwork with their fans, but if you want some details on how to wire the fans along the same line, you can always speak to tech support at Modern Fan and they can talk you through the installation process too. Can I replace the halogen bulb with a comparable brightness LED?

Asked by: Mwerevu
Thanks for your interest in this design. Certainly, you can replace the halogen bulb with a G9 straight pin base LED bulb in the 9-13W range, which are easy enough to find online or in any local Home Department store nearby if that is easier. Should you require some additional clarification beyond this and would like to speak to a product specialist directly, feel free to give us a call anytime at 866.842.6209 and we can assist you. Can I install this fan on a sloped ceiling?  Do I need an extra adapter to do that.  Thanks.

Asked by: Sadie7sadie
Yes, the Flow Ceiling Fan can be installed as it comes standard on a sloped ceiling up to 33 degrees. For inclines beyond 33 degrees, you would need to order an additional adapter that would enable the fan to be installed on slopes up to 45 degrees. Thanks for contacting us!
