Design by Ron Rezek.
By The Modern Fan Company.

The Plum features softer, organic lines while still maintaining a clean modern appearance.

Plum is made of die-cast aluminum and offered in either a gloss white powder coat or brushed aluminum finish. The blades are a plywood laminate with a gloss white coating or metallic aluminum paint, choose 52" or 42" blade span (overall diameter). The optional light kits provide ambient lighting in your choice of halogen or compact fluorescent lamping; the halogen offers two sizes of glass.

The fan speed and the light can be operated by one of several control options. Note: Any control ordered with a fan that has been configured with an energy-saving CFL will be supplied in a non-dimming version.

Includes 4", and 16" downrods for 12" or 24" overall height. Optional downrods are available for alternate heights. The Plum fan can accommodate a sloped ceiling up to 33°. For slopes over 33° but under 45°, use the sloped ceiling adaptor (sold separately).

  • Airflow measured in cubic feet per minute at high speed (CFM) = 5679
  • Watts at high speed = 70
  • Airflow efficiency at high speed (CFM/Watts) = 81

Ron Rezek

Ron Rezek designed the world's first contemporary-styled ceiling fan, the Stratos, in 1986. But his list of accomplishments in the design world is long and varied, from lifeguard equipment to contemporary lighting. In 1997, Ron started The Modern Fan Co. in Ashland, Oregon, which produces and sells only contemporary ceiling fans.

His ceiling fans have been widely used in hotels, restaurants, retail and institutional applications, and all types of residential projects.

Ron Rezek's Philosophy:
"I don't think contemporary means a stark white room. I think it means a tasteful alignment of important elements. There are some designers who copy the Modernists who have come before. But I think 'contemporary' is the pursuit of the new." "People assume that all contemporary fixtures are more functional than traditional ones. That is because contemporary fixtures are easier to clean and they seem to be more utilitarian based on their appearance. And because of their simplicity and lack of ornamentation, they also have an alliance with the industrial look. But all of this doesn't necessarily translate into function. The Modern Fan Co.'s fans are designed to be functional and energy efficient. This is part of being contemporary and pushing the edge. Energy efficiency is the wave of the future."

Modern Fan Company

Modern Fan Company. Consciously cool.

Modern Fan represents a new age in ceiling fans — the marrying of efficient function with contemporary design. Designed by Ron Rezek, the Modern Fan Company's models celebrate the modern idiom through mechanical simplification, geometric forms and contemporary finishes. The unique ceiling fan styles of Modern Fan represent a new age in ceiling fans — the marrying of efficient function with contemporary design (you won't find any wicker or flowery fans here!).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Prosuct -- Excellent Service! We are just completing a total remodeling of our kitchen and found the perfect ceiling fan on the YLighting Web Site. The 42 inch Plum Fan is perfect for small kitchens. My contractor was particularly impressed by the precision parts that made it easy to assemble and install, and enable it to live up to its lifetime warranty. Best of all was the expeditious service of YLighting. The fan arrived in just three days; right on schedule for its installation. Frrom now on we'll check the YLighting site before going any farther on the Web for the broad range of products they offer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect finishing touch In the last stages of our 50's ranch house remodel, we needed a ceiling fan for our peaked roof living room. It's a small house, and we needed the perfect fit, with the perfect styling, and an affordable price. After junking the huge 80s fan that the previous owners had installed, we spent a week looking at every option. Y Lighting had the most comprehensive selection at the best prices. The Plum Ceiling Fan ended up being the PERFECT fan for this space. Modern but classic, is is a beautiful detail in our home. Thank you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We Love our Plum Ceiling Fan We needed to replace a rather large ceiling fan with a light. After looking at a ton of different fan designs, some with lights and some without, we decided that the only way we could find a fan that was not intrusive, we would have to forgo a light. Then we found the Plum Ceiling fan. It's sleek design meets all of our needs. It is absolutely silent, has a minimal footprint, even with 52 inch blades and a minimalist, yet powerful light that works on a dimmer. Rarely have we been as satisfied with a purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful modern yet soft fan. This is a beautiful fan that functions nicely. It is modern and simple, but the brushed chrome and curved edges make it soft while keeping it very simple and clean. I could see it looking good in a number of different types of decors. It is not absolutely silent, but it is relatively quiet. The electrician who installed it got his own wall unit for it as opposed to using the one that came with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Form and Function I took a chance and ordered 8 of these fans before there were very many reviews, 4 aluminum and 4 white. They have now been installed in my newly remodeled mid-century modern home and I love them. They look cool and they move air! The blades are not real aluminum, like some reviews have said they are a painted plywood type material, but they still look great and I am very happy with them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This is a great-looking fan, but I have some reservations about its mechanics. I have always admired the design of the Modern Fan Company fans. Most ceiling fans are so clunky, big, ill-proportioned, and just—usually—ugly. After many years of settling for cheaper, uglier ceiling fans, I bought the Plum by MFC. It is a beautiful fan. It looks great just silently sitting, not even in motion. Installation was simple and straight-forward, a standard installation. I am using the remote option since I live in a very old house with old, odd wiring. While I would like the blades to be a bit longer (I have the 52" version), the fan moves a decent amount of air. My one reservation about the fan is a disconcerting non-periodic clicking noise that developed on the higher speeds just a few days after installation (it has been working only about a week). I have emailed MFC and am hoping they have an easy explanation. It sounds like something is unbalanced, which I hope is not true for a new fan.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great style, cool fan I liked the shape of this fan. The finish looks great and with the additional remote it really works great. Only minus would be that even with a certified wall switch (not a Modern Company one) the fans hums a little. Once replaced with the brand remote the humming nearly disappear but I had more silent fans before. Overall I am happy and recommend this product

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slick and efficient I called to place the order and got confirmation that the item was in stock. The ceiling fan is slick and discrete with the short arm (we have low ceilings). It moves the air very nicely with the 52 blades. The 75W halogen provides ambient light for a 14 X 15 bedroom but we'd need additional light to read in bed. Also it is very quiet.
