Call them what you will - neatly coiled balls of yarn, soap bubbles hanging from lightbulbs, lanterns for Arabian nights, Moooi will call them Non Random Lights.
The diffuser is made of fiberglass soaked in epoxy resin. They are capped with powder coated aluminum fitter. Provides direct and ambient illumination.
Bertjan Pot was born 1975 in Nieuwleusen, the Netherlands (a small town in the east of the country). He now lives in Rotterdam working on various projects. Sometimes he initiates a project himself because he likes it so much that he feels that it just has to be made. Sometimes he is commissioned to do a project because other people like his work. Bertjan's main fascination is material and production processes.
In design, Bertjan flirts with computer esthetics and industrial production methods, but without using a computer (at least not as a design tool) and sometimes also without the industrial production method. Almost all designs come from experiments in materials, old and new. The way a product feels is just as important as the way it looks.
Moooi is an avant-garde Dutch design firm specializing in lighting, furniture and textiles. Its designs, in collaboration with renowned designers including Marcel Wanders, Ross Lovegrove and Jasper Morrison, are cutting edge, yet retain a playful character.
The non random has a simple form, but the texture of the surface is complex and rich, making a beautiful shadow. The light from the fixture is a nice glow. This fixture is a nice balance of once again, a simple form with a rich surface that overall makes for a unique fixture.

Beautiful & Classy
This pendent will take your room to an entirely new design level. We installed it in our master bedroom with a dimmer switch. It's a beautiful finishing touch with a professionally-designed feel. No more ugly ceiling light - yippee!!

round not pear shaped
cool light, just was dissapointed when the shape was a globe/spherical because the pics I saw indicated a delicate dropped "pear form".

Sorry, since I've returned this item and can not comment.
I returned this, because it was little too big for our dining area. The design looked different than your on line photos.

Wonderful!
This "Non Random Light" really lives up to it's name. Our living room is quite small and we needed a light fixture that allowed you to see the fireplace mantel through it, but at the same time add some interest as well to the room. This light brought it all together and I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for that "little extra"
We purchased the smaller fixture and it works like a charm!

This fixture is perfect!
The pendant works perfectly over the dining table that is offset from the ceiling jbox. Since we were not able to relocate the jbox added a hook swaged the light to the center of the dining table- since the fixture is so light weight, it stays in place perfectly! And looks beautiful!

non random light
We are building a modern urban home to be in our HBA Parade of Homes. We chose the non random fixture in white
(large size) for our dining room fixture. It looks spectacular.
We have gotten a very positive response from all who have seen it.

very beautiful, striking presence
Provides beautiful low level ambient light. You pay a lot for design. Probably worth it though.

Love the shape; haven't solved the bulb yet
We are enjoying the look of the fixture. But we're still trying different bulbs in order to get a light output and an appearance that we like.

Really beautiful light...but one thing:
So, we bought this light and we love it - the big version - holds low levels of light in a beautiful way, open and glowing.
but buyer beware: the version that Moooi is selling is differently shaped than the one that Y-lighting and many other pervayors are advertising. seems that moooi distributed digital and photographic prototype images that were used at their Venice show. So what we received was shaped more like a symettrical tangerine than a "japanese tea whisk." its still beautiful, though its not what we ordered. Still, we're probably going to get another - they are very cool.

In contrast to new construction housings, remodeling housings are appropriate when you have limited or no access to the space above a new fixture, such as in an apartment or a home without crawl spaces or attics above.
New Construction Housings
In contrast to remodeling housings, new construction housings are bulkier and need to be installed between joist beams or onto hangar bars and thus you need full access to the space above the fixture. This style is best used if you are building in a new space, gutting a room, or have an attic above or pop out ceiling, etc.
Non-IC Rated
Non-IC stands for: non insulation contact. Thus, non-IC-rated housings must be kept at least 3 inches away from any insulation.
IC Rated
IC stands for: insulation contact. Thus, IC-rated housings can come in direct contact with thermal insulation.
MR16 Halogen Bulb
MR 16 is a standard format for halogen multifaceted reflector light bulbs. MR16 lamps are regularly used in place of standard incandescent light bulbs as they harness and shoot light, resulting in less light loss than a traditional bulb. These are best used when you want focused light such as in a pendant over a countertop or an accent light on a painting.

If the environment exposes the lighting system to moisture condensation, then the location is a damp location. Lights that are approved for damp locations can be used in sheltered outdoor areas such as roofed porches or interior locations subject to moderated degrees of moisture such as basements.
Wet Location
If the lighting system is exposed to direct impact by water from splashing or dripping, which will make the fixture wet, then the location is a wet location. Your most common wet locations are uncovered outdoor areas.
