This idea is evident in the Ilium Pendant Light, which features a transparent pyrex glass outer diffuser and an opal white inner diffuser. The glass emerges from an anodized aluminum body and even disperses light, creating ambient illumination. The Ilium Pendant Light is finished to the very last detail. Originally conceived for the Posthaus restaurant in St Moritz, the Ilium light concept was extended to a family of lights for Italian lighting manufacturer Nemo and launched at the Milan Furniture Fair in April 2007. After graduating from Manchester University School of Architecture and City Planning in 1961 he won a Henry Fellowship to Yale University, where he gained a Master’s Degree in Architecture. In 1990 he was granted a Knighthood in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, and in 1999 was honoured with a Life Peerage, becoming Lord Foster of Thames Bank.
