Finding the right look for an overhead kitchen light for our modern/transitional/100-year=old bungalow was a challenge. The school house type would have been OK, but just didn't feel right for our mid-century to euro modern decor. And a lot of the semi flush lights just looked "too contractor" and generic. We chose the one with the darker shade option and it pops and looks fantastic in our black and white scheme - modern, but a little retro. Very designer looking. The best part was that we didn't have to install a dimmer, the light has one built in!
