Ron Rezek Ron Rezek designed the world's first contemporary-styled ceiling fan, the Stratos, in 1986. But his list of accomplishments in the design world is long and varied, from lifeguard equipment to contemporary lighting. In 1997, Ron started The Modern Fan Co. in Ashland, Oregon, which produces and sells only contemporary ceiling fans. His ceiling fans have been widely used in hotels, restaurants, retail and institutional applications, and all types of residential projects. Ron Rezek's Philosophy:
"I don't think contemporary means a stark white room. I think it means a tasteful alignment of important elements. There are some designers who copy the Modernists who have come before. But I think 'contemporary' is the pursuit of the new." "People assume that all contemporary fixtures are more functional than traditional ones. That is because contemporary fixtures are easier to clean and they seem to be more utilitarian based on their appearance. And because of their simplicity and lack of ornamentation, they also have an alliance with the industrial look. But all of this doesn't necessarily translate into function. The Modern Fan Co.'s fans are designed to be functional and energy efficient. This is part of being contemporary and pushing the edge. Energy efficiency is the wave of the future." The bulb portion is small. I used it for a bathroom and I would not recommend it. By: Ming L., Architect (91006)
4 out of 5 Nice bath fixture that is well designed and madeThe 2 square strip wall light is a solidly constructed fixture. It looks great for our remodeled bathroom which has a very modern feel to it. The only drawback is it's difficult to find a T5 bulb with a warm color tone; the only one we found so far has 4500K color temperature, which is still too harsh for bathroom. Ideally, the T5 bulb should be 3000K. By: Christine T., Homeowner (San Mateo)
3 out of 5 wish the light went to the endI have not installed these yet so can update after install. The light appears to be nice quality. I wish the actual light went all the way to the end, I don't like that there is a light-less metal end. I bought two to put side by side above the mirror and want it to be one continuous block of light. I'm not really sure how these will look By: Lucy W., Homeowner (western USA)
2 out of 5 Nice design poor lightingI purchased this one based on the opinion of my architect. Nice clean design - looks very cool, but the lighting is very dim and does not light my small 40 sq ft bath at all. The bulbs are also very pricey. Anyone want a lightly used light fixture? By: Jane, Homeowner (Seattle)
5 out of 5 Great fixture! This light is really a nice minimalistic design and it provides great light. Excellent purchase. By: Jordan G., (Chicago)

Pity about the pricing - Good design should be far more widely available than it is.These lamps along with others designed by Rezek are great. What an absolute shame and pity that the benefits of good design (agree that it doesn't mean stark white rooms!) are denied to most people because of the ridiculous pricing. I don't think anyone would object to paying a royalty to the designer, but by the time you've gone from manufacturer through several layers of zero valued added "representatives and distributors" (each marking up the product along the way), great product is only available to those who can pay the very high prices. Compare these well-designed and well-built lamps to the trash one is normally confronted with when paying a visit to a home improvement store or even worse, a lighting showroom. Its a pity that good design is perceived as something exclusive and pricey. Great design - simplicity and elegance - can lift the spirits - and that should be available to far more people than is the case today. By: Phil A., Architect (Scottsdale, Arizona, USA)
5 out of 5 looks great , works wellI liked he look of these lights so ordered them. When they arrived they were even better looking in "person". I had a professional do the installation so I can't comment on that aspect. I bought the high output ones so the bulbs are a bit expensive, but I still can recommend them. By: Sylvia S., Homeowner (santa barbara, ca usa)
4 out of 5 Nice fixtureThis fixture looks very nice in our bathroom remodel. The only problem is that the paint at each end of the fixture scratches very easily, or at least that's what our contractor says ;). By: Botanista, Homeowner (Boulder, CO)
4 out of 5 Creates an interesting achitectural detailI had hoped to recess these lights so the front face would appear flush with the wall. Because the box that covers the wiring is wider than the lights, the recessed "alcove" that the lights are set in has about a one inch gap on either side of the fixture. While not what I had intended, it looks good because the lights themselves are so nice. Good value for the money. By: Debbie, (Portland, Oregon)
5 out of 5 FunctionalThis fixture is functional and modern, perfect for a bathroom that is restricted on space. By: Redtop Architects, Architect (New York, NY, USA)
5 out of 5 This is a beautiful fixture. It looks great in our powder room. It took a while to get it, but was worth the wait. By: LML, Architect (Centennial, CO)
1 out of 5 A disaster. We did a master bath renovation, using these lights to frame the mirrors. I ordered four of the 50" HO. All four burned out the bulbs in a couple of weeks. I changed all the bulbs. All burned out again. Ylighting was responsive and got the manufacturer to replace all four. One of the new ones burned out the bulb quickly, too. Got it replaced. Now a second one of the new batch is also burning out and the previously replaced one is, too. The manufacturer has said it will not replace any more. Our whole bathroom design is dependent on these fixtures. What a mess. By: Lisa, Homeowner (Bethesda, MD)
3 out of 5 This light is a great length, it spans nearly the entire wall of our bathroom and gives off good light. The light's size and modern aethetic is what really appealed to me. However, the amount of light it gives off as really sold me! Clean lines and useful! It doesn't get much better than that! By: Michelle L., Architect (seattle)
5 out of 5 Luv eet! This is a great fixture at a great price. It's wonderful to get good design without having to pay thousands of bucaroos! By: AC, Architect (Kansas City) Customer QuestionsQ: The 2 Square Strip - how does one change the lightbulb? Does it open on the capped ends? Or does the front come off? A: The lens comes off the front.
Q: Can the 2 Square Strip light be used on the ceiling? A: Yes you can use the 2 Square Strip on the ceiling.

Remodel Housings
In contrast to new construction housings, remodeling housings are appropriate when you have limited or no access to the space above a new fixture, such as in an apartment or a home without crawl spaces or attics above.
New Construction Housings
In contrast to remodeling housings, new construction housings are bulkier and need to be installed between joist beams or onto hangar bars and thus you need full access to the space above the fixture. This style is best used if you are building in a new space, gutting a room, or have an attic above or pop out ceiling, etc.
Non-IC Rated
Non-IC stands for: non insulation contact. Thus, non-IC-rated housings must be kept at least 3 inches away from any insulation.
IC Rated
IC stands for: insulation contact. Thus, IC-rated housings can come in direct contact with thermal insulation.
MR16 Halogen Bulb
MR 16 is a standard format for halogen multifaceted reflector light bulbs. MR16 lamps are regularly used in place of standard incandescent light bulbs as they harness and shoot light, resulting in less light loss than a traditional bulb. These are best used when you want focused light such as in a pendant over a countertop or an accent light on a painting.

Wet Location
If the lighting system is exposed to direct impact by water from splashing or dripping, which will make the fixture wet, then the location is a wet location. Your most common wet locations are uncovered outdoor areas.
