After completing his studies architecture, his friendship with Ettore Sottsass and Alessandro Mendini took him to Milan at the end of the Seventies, where he became one of the main activists in the provocative designer group Memphis. His approach to the creation of new styles in design helped to play an important role in the Memphis movement, but by the late 1980's, de Lucchi had moved on to more traditional designs. After working with Artemide to develop some of their lasting bestsellers, de Lucchi created his Produzione Privata label, which creates small series of his designs featuring exquisite craftsmanship. Customer ReviewsFunctional but flawed If this light had been designed with the glass hugging the ceiling more closely, it would be perfect. The highly visible, wide metal base with conspicuous mounting screws detracts from the delightful form of the glass. This is not apparent in the spec picture which has the base drawn more narrow than actuality. By: Rene D., Homeowner (St. Charles IL) Great quality light This light is great quality and looks gorgeous on the wall. The brightest part of the bulb is centered on the depression in the shade of the glass. The rest of the shade is uniform and looks fantastic. They're a little pricey but worth it. A tip when installing: Be sure to apply pressure to shade when inserting it into the fixture base. There is a foam ring that needs to be compressed in order to seat the shade properly. If you do that, and secure the screws, its impossible for the shade to fall out. By: Cruzmisl, Homeowner (Grosse Pointe, Mi) Your getting what you pay for... It's a close imitation/interpretation of an Italian or German made brands. It's very good looking and very simple to install. Actually the fastening system for the glass cover is very precarious and you have to make sure that the bolts are all the way in, if not the shade will fall. Expect to see bark rings on the glass when the light is on. By: Carlos T., Homeowner (Miami, FL) Kumo Ceiling Light - Great illumination 0ur architect recommened the Kumo but at first I was not sure I liked the unusal design. We ordered one and found the quality of the glass and the lighting affect once illuminated very nice, so we ordered two more and are using it throughout our garden floor apartment in our newly renovated brownstone. By: Dawn D., pretty and practical looks great and provides the right amount of light for a powder room. no surprises from ordering without seeing it. By: Julie B., Homeowner simple...and beautiful. An excellent (and well priced) ceiling light that gives an even glow, with subtle style. By: Koko Architecture, Architect (New York, NY) Looks great for a decent price! Very nice quality fixture that is one step above most ceiling fixtures at that price point. Might look best on higher ceilings where the mounting base would not show at all. By: Eric S., Homeowner (San Francisco) Looks great, but...... I got this fixture and I hung the fixture. It looks great on the wall. I secured the glass gently tightening the screws so as not to crack the glass per the instructions. I walked away and about on hour later, the glass shade fell off the wall and shattered into a million pieces. A better securing mechanism is needed. By: Gary E., Homeowner (SE Michigan) Subtle and Fun We purchased the Kumo as a ceiling fixture for the master bedroom where we couldn't drop the ceiling. The room has a lot of color design features, this fixture is the perfect compliment without being distracting to the eye. By: Redtop A., Architect (New York, NY, USA) Falsely advertised as Artemide The light is serviceable. I'd recommend using it in basement spaces and laundry rooms rather than prominent bedrooms or living spaces on the main or upper floors. Although this light is advertised as being produced by Artemide, it's packaged as Rezek and shipped out of California, not Italy. By: Trent G., Designer (Minneapolis, MN) LOVE these lights... we purchased these lights for our basement stairwell. affordable, in comparison to other lights of its calliber, simple/interesting design, & lovely. we couldn't be happier.
