The textures and light characteristics of this fixture are very unique and exactly what we were searching for to replace our reverse, white pendants. Finding a pendant that emits diffuse light while also throwing up and down light is very rare. For our application over kitchen counters in a room filled with all down-light cams, this is perfect.
Apart from the light bulb, there is no glass in this fixture. The shade is composed of two different fabrics; very beautiful. The metal hanger/socket is also clean and modern. The only gripe is the poorly designed cord length stop used to prevent cord slippage... the figure 8 loop holder is very, very difficult to adjust for such electric cord that is used in the fixture. Many manufactures use a screw locking mechanism to grab and hold the cord, but Sonneman went cheap on this design element. Having hung many light fixtures, this is by far the worst design application I have ever seen and surprising for such an expensive fixture.
With that said, I would avoid a Sonneman light fixture IF it had this design element. It was that much of a problem.
