The canopy replaces an older one than was much lower profile and is still pictured on some sites with the same Tech lighting part number. This canopy looks thicker than 1.7 inches but was the only one available now.

This was a replacement for a previous fixture, and it was exactly what was needed for this spot. In fact it was a little nicer, including a cable to keep the fixture hanging from the mounting plate while hooking up the wiring. Nice.

I wish the Tech Lighting products were less expensive, but they don't disappoint because they're beautifully made. This one, actually seems to be value-priced. It's a big, hefty unit. When you figure that you're getting three jacks and you see all the care and material that went into building it, it's an impressive product. I also like the way Tech offers several different formats for these canopies. I considered the 4 jack linear one, but having the opportunity to move "off the line" with this round one was one I took advantage of. I'm using two of them, separated by about 8', and I have them lined up so that there are two rows of lights. OK, that may be hard to visualize from this description, but take my word for it, round gives you some choices that straight does not.
