This single-feed surface transformer converts standard 120 line voltage to 12 volts to provide the necessary voltage for powering a MonoRail low-voltage lighting system. It can power lamps totaling up to 300 watts. LED compatible. The magnetic transformer is concealed inside a decorative housing with a fast-acting secondary circuit breaker that will safely turn the system off should a short occur. Once the short has been removed the breaker can be reset.
This surface transformer includes a preinstalled debuzzing dimming coil to reduce audible noice when using a low-voltage dimmer.
Black and white finish have satin nickel feeds. The shortest rigid standoff that can be used with this surface transformer is 4" rigid standoff (sold separately). If dropping the rail more than 4" below the ceiling, order the desired rigid standoff length and one compatible power extender (sold separately). This surface transformer may be plugged in with the addition of a Plug Option, a 16 foot cord with plug (sold separately).

TECH Lighting is North America's premier designer of architectural lighting systems. Tech's products are unique thanks to their quality and attention to detail, making TECH a great solution for both residential and commercial applications.
What began as a Chicago lighting showroom in 1983 evolved into an industry-leading manufacturer. Over the years, TECH Lighting became famous for its low-voltage track lighting systems, such as MonoRail, Kable Lite, and TwinRail.
This tradition of excellence continues with the introduction of T-trak™, winner of the Lightfair 2003 Design Excellence Award for most innovative new product. T-trak is the first-ever hand-bendable, line-voltage track lighting system. This revolutionary system features a sleek metal track that can be curved in the field to form practically any shape, while simultaneously providing powerful and versatile illumination options.
These systems are complemented by a wide range of pendants, wall sconces, bath lighting, chandeliers, ceiling fixtures, picture lights, and more. Tech's commitment to innovation, design and craftsmanship is evident in every component, from their rail and cable, to signature glass, to the smallest hardware detailing.
Engineering is ok but wiring is a challenge
My electrician installed the base (with the transformer) to the ceiling. This unit is very heavy so it requires reinforcement to support the weight.
When I was about to attach the monorail to the unit I discovered that the center post which holds (and powers) the monorail was dangling by the wire. Upon removing the cover, it turned out that the set-screw holding the power connector was loose. In addition, there was only one wire from the transformer attached to the power connector. I don't know if it arrived that way or if the electrician borked it.
I needed to detach the one wire from the transformer lead, and then I was stumped about which wires should actually be connected because the wiring diagrams and descriptions (wire colors) don't match what you find inside the unit.
It may be that this discrepancy confused my electrician and he wired things incorrectly. Waiting on clarification from Tech Lighting technical support.

The product is excellent
Product has a high quality brushed chrome finish and works perfectly with the spot lights that I have, which are also from Tech Lighting.

Manageable for the DIY'er
The Tech Lighting system is cleverly designed, attractive, and relatively easy to install. Some familiarity with electrical work is a plus if you're installing it yourself. I converted a recessed lighting can to a surface mounted transformer using this product (can adapter can be puchased at any of the big box stores). The transformer is fairly large, so make sure you're okay with a big metal dome on the ceiling before you go with this product. After getting the rail and lights installed, the transformer circuit breaker kept tripping. As it turns out, I had tightened the set screw of the Free Jack connector for the pendant lights too tightly when shortening the cable on two of the lamps, causing a short-circuit. There's a very fine line between tight enough and too tight. After doing some continuity testing with a multitester, I isolated the issue and fixed it. The instructions do warn about over-tightening the set screws, but I didn't appreciate just how gentle you had to be. Overall, a very good product.
