The Ausi Table Lamp by Graypants artfully blends contemporary and sustainable design with classic shapes. A fabulously-layered formulation of recycled cardboard is used to create the fixture’s lantern-style shade, which conceals a single socket set upright inside it with the aid of a spindly but strong brass frame below. The light is controlled by a simple cord switch and shines out through the curved corrugations of the edge-on cardboard to cast a warm ambiance across its environment.
Architectural duo Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker established Graypants, an environmentally-responsible lighting house, in 2007. With home bases in Seattle and Amsterdam, the responsible and eco-chic design house created their first line of pendant lights out of repurposed corrugated cardboard, aptly titled 'scraplights.' While still focusing on recycled pendant lights, the pair continues to expand their design portfolio with various architectural installations and public artworks.
