blankblank is one of the newest brands to YLighting, and they are just as unique and creative as their name. From wall lights that double as pieces of sculptural art to statement pendant lights that explore the beauty of materials and shapes, blankblank offers a fresh, modern take on lighting design.
Founded in 2004 by Rob Zinn, blankblank is a Northern California based company with a strong mission of creating beautiful, heirloom-quality products by combining sustainability and design. One of the amazing things about blankblank is that all of their products are made in California, and they use environmentally-conscious manufacturing processes to produce them. Each piece is created using durable natural, recycled or recyclable materials, and is manufactured using low-waste production techniques. So not only is each fixture beautiful, but each lamp was created with the environment in mind.
My favorite collection by blankblank is the Heliocentric Collection. It was actually designed by the founder himself, and consists of three wall sconces, the Concentric, Viscosity and Expansion. Each wall light is made from multiple steel panels in different sizes stacked on top of each other to create a unique, tiered silhouette. Each panel is powder coated with a white finish on the front and a rich color on the back. When turned on, the light reflects off the colored panels creating a beautiful glowing effect. So if you are looking for a piece of wall art that is also a light fixture, these fixtures are it. And they come in multiple sizes and colorways.
Here are some amazing detail shots showcasing the tiered structure of the Heliocentric Collection fixtures, and how the light enhances the colors.
The Tubes Collection by Tim Richartz explores the beauty of minimalism. Hence the collection name, each pendant boasts a simple, tube-like shape with either a satin, polished, color or wood finish. Since these pendant lights are so elegant and modern, I think they would be perfect lined above a kitchen counter to complement your current decor or arranged in a cluster above a dining room table to create a dynamic centerpiece.
Besides great lighting designs, blankblank also makes innovative, modern furniture. I think the Divide Bench is such a unique and creative design with the way it combines form with function. One side of the bench features a standard straight edge, while the other side is separated into two parts that are situated in a slightly angled position. The angled side was designed to encourage its sitters to move closer together and engage with each other. This bench would be perfect for parties or more intimate conversations between two people. Plus it can be used indoors or outdoors!
