In the Coral Galaxea Pendant Light by Arturo Alvarez, designer Hector Serrano recreates the tentacled Euphylliidae by the same name through a hand-sculpted mesh construction. The plump forms of organic galaxea come to life in a tall tapered shade. The steel mesh shade is folded and welded in a series of grooves, then painted to give it its texture perforations. Like corals, the outer surface of the piece absorbs light; it twinkles as its microscopic holes take in the energy from a lamp inside.
Started in 1994 as “a by arturo alvarez,” the company was rebranded as “a-emotional light” in 2020. Led by CEO Marco Rioseco and Sales Manager Miguel Martínez, a-emotional light produces products with one goal: to make people feel. Based in Galicia in Northwestern Spain, nature is found in each design by a-emotional light. Each product features a unique design and irregular shape inspired by the comforting and astonishing landscape of Galicia.
